Topic: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photos

Posted By: cajunavion on 06/15/14 07:48pm

Howdy!
Do any yall have pictures of the OEM bathroom
ceiling? What I dont know is exactly how the
shower curtain rail mounts. Apparently it is
a small aluminum rail above the door corner?
D1, MTC, but Id think about leaving the chimney.
It is so distinctive of Avions, and I agree with, I believe it
was 67, keep the outside lines, customize the inside.
Garry had leaks, but there are ways around it. I have
keep the Furnace concentric vent, the hot water cover,
and radio antenna, even though they are all
abandoned. They just seem to scream Avion.
Yall please criticize my plumbing, I need all
the help I can get.

Tonyj54, I believe you have the front dinette in your rig? Could I trouble you for some dimensions of that dinette: how wide and deep is each seat, without cushions? How far apart are the front edges of the seats - the space for your legs are under the table. How high is the seat above the floor? Is there a tank under the floor? How high is that build-up? Your table dimensions. Anything else you think might be helpful. Thanks very much. I am getting near the actual interior layout and am interested in what the factory thought was a good configuration back in the day.

Yes,sir. I'll go out and get those measurements for you today. I've been on the radio for the last couple of hours, taking part in a net that I try to catch up with each morning. Weather looks like it will cooperate today, just HOT. lol. Welcome to Florida, right!

See y'all on the roads, or in the parks.

Got photos and measurements, but having trouble putting photos into PhotoBucket. We don't use Microsoft anymore, and P/B doesn't accept .odg photos. Searching for a workaround.

Tony, you can't make jpegs?

Posted By: D1trout on 06/18/14 04:10pm

Tony, please don't trouble yourself with pics! I downloaded some pics of your rig from the net sometime in the past year - not knowing it was yours, of course. I love the charming, homey red interior!
All I need is the basic numbers so I can compare the factory's notions about design and layout to my own.
Thanks in advance.

Tried a conversion program last night, but every one came back marked CONVERSION ERROR.

Dunno!

There is a fascinating truck camper from Europe called the "bimobil". I am giving the url for the film at the website. You may find, as I did, that the film loads very slowly and it is typically pretentious...but hold on till the last part where they convert a Toyota pick up into a flat bed. Its amazing. And it may have some application...may....to the builds that are going on now. clicky

I see there is a discussion of the camper on here...check out the European TC post

67, that bimobil is a very neat concept! If there should be another Avion in my future, I'd like to try that approach. It would be nice to have both the extra room inside and the apparent ease of dismounting the camper for day tripping. And they mentioned the possibility of creating a passage from the cab into the camper. Annie's lobbying for that but I fear I'm too far down the road to add it now.
BTW, how do you add the "clicky" to your post?

Dick.

Okay, let's see if I can make some sense out of this for you.(Would you believe I did this last night at around midnight, but accidentally deleted it?! Think I fell asleep and did it.)

***NOTE: ALL MEASUREMENTS ARE +/- A BIT, ALLOWING FOR DIFFERENCES IN CONSTRUCTION QUALITY AND TECHNIQUES, SO YOURS MAY BE A HAIR OFF FROM THESE.***

Anyway. Easy part first.

TABLETOP/LOWER BUNK CENTER SECTION. Ours is the original, made of 3/4"
something, covered with a veneer. Flat edge is 28" wide, and length is
42" from flat edge to center of rounded end.

Now, the fun stuff.

FORWARD DINETTE AREA: Stove enclosure is where the PORT side begins.
and SINK enclosure is the STBD side. The raised area for dinette table and fresh-water tank space is two levels, and come out flush with the cabinet areas. (I'll describe them further momentarily.) Depth of the area from REAR edges to FWD bulkhead is 45-1/2". WIDTH is 90" between side windows.

SETTEES are 28-1/4" apart, allowing for TABLE/BUNK CENTER SECTION.
PORT and STBD SETTEES are 30-3/4" from side bulkhead to inside edge.
On either side is a 3/4" lip mounted 1" below flush with top-level,
which holds the TABLE/BUNK CENTER SECTION. 6-1/2" inboard from each bulkhead, is a REMOVABLE section with a shelf attached. This section is patterned after the original, also, so it's made to fit between
the cabinets to the rear and the front bulkhead just where the curve
begins. The shelf you can kind of put wherever you please. Our PORT side shelf is used to hide the plumbing connecting the fresh-water tank to the city-water connection. STBD side shelf is where we keep
a glass canister set, the coffee pot, and a couple of other items. When the shelf section is in place, it makes the SETTEE section measure 45-1/2" x 24-1/2". The height of the SETTEE is 13" from the
top of the lower riser to the seat. There are also 9-1/2" wide storage ares inside the SETTEEs, accessed by removable panels with hand-holes. The PORT side is storage for whatever you choose. The STBD holds the BATTERY COMPARTMENT, and the fresh-water system pressurization pump.
(Neither of which are currently functional, but we'll get there.)

RISER SECTION: From floor, the first/rear riser comes up 7", and extends forward 32-1/2". This section is divided into two storage
areas, accessed by a divided lid(which is where your feet go when you eat). Ours opens on the right-hand side, attached by a piano-hinge to the STBD SETTEE. We use ours to store whatever.

The FWD-most upper riser comes up 6" above the lower, and extends to the FWD bulkhead (ours is 13-15/16"), and this is where the fresh-water tank is held.

As for the DINETTE TABLE, itself. I haven't come up with a suitable/
workable way to attach the table to the FWD bulkhead, so we place the
table atop a scissor-leg (X-leg)table when eating, and store it under the PORT SETTEE cushions until bedtime.

I hope this will help. Let me know if I missed anything you need. Gotta go assume grandbaby watch for awhile. lol.
