Thanks Dennis for the encouragement. Unfortunately the timing stinks. That is the week that my oldest son gradates High School. So we will not be able to make it.

On a separate note, I just read about this wind generator made specifically for Truck Campers. And since I live in a windy location, it looks interesting, though, I do not have a roof rack nor a ladder... And our winds regularly get above 35mph... I wonder if I could modify the tale to be spring loaded and set to "snap" to 90 degrees when the wind reached a certain speed to "unload" the generator... More ideas, and I don't even have my solar set up yet... Maybe I need to get my son to weld up a ladder first...[emoticon]

Wind generator for TC's

I wonder if a person could put the output through a MPPT solar controller. I know the advertisement says the large unit puts out 8.5 amps at 30 volts.

I would be interested to know what MPPT would do that, as I may actually buy this wind generator before I get solar, since Alaska has lots of wind... and not always much sun... ;-o

Turbine.

This one looks like a HOSS, Got me wondering why a man couldn't just take a alternator, solenoid , generator from a car or old tractor and add a fan blade to make the Kind of juice we need??? Has to be a way.

Howdy!
Does anybody else feel like we have just
suffered a death in the family?

Yep!

No doubt something happened that we don't know about and shouldn't inquire about.

The guy did stunning work. I'm sorry I didn't know about the eBay auction, but c'est la vie. I've been busy and not checking the site.

I will miss his posts and the knowledge that he and his dad brought to the project. And yes, it does feel like a death in the family.

Hopefully, he takes a break and resumes the rebuild. He has the hard part done. Unfortunately, there are some expensive items on the inside, but if you spread it out over time, it isn't too bad.

I understand that principle. We had a cheap Igloo cooler for two years till we saved up for the Engel. We camped with plywood countertops until we scored some stainless steel to fabricate our own. While you took the approach to save and wait till you had the money to restore your family's camper the best you could, we went the approach, get it functional to use, and see what we liked and disliked, then change/modify till we like it. And it still isn't finished. We hope to add a hot water heater and shower at some point, and finish changing all the inside lights to LED.

We also scored a Fiiama awning, but have installed it yet from craigslist. All little things, but found so far that we use our Ez-up 10x10 screened tent more than we would have the awning, since sun tends to not be the problem in Alaska, though it might have been nice for the rain at times, but many of those times was rain AND wind....

Anyway, for all those working on your campers like me, don't get discouraged, and stop. It's better to be used and not perfectly finished, than it is to have it part way perfect and not finished and loose steam.

Good luck, and God Bless!

Garry
