XXXXXX222222!!!!!

Not only will you forget or "misremember" what you did last week....you'll flat blank out something from last year.

Anyone new to restoration please heed this advice: (1) Place the coach under cover out of weather...one NEVER knows where leaks start or end (2) photograph every detail of the coach as it sits- inside and out - top to bottom...place the photos on CDs in addition to the memory of your computer (3) Anything that is removed is labeled and placed in a secure place with numbers and notes on the removal. (4) Ask for manuals, wiring harness diagrams and any other basic information and we will supply them. (5) Read the string.

One more piece of advice: listen to old hipster music, smoke a cigar and taste a little bourbon. You'll soon be ready to ride [emoticon]

I am surprised that you say that I make it look easy, since way back at the beginning of this thread, I nearly cut off my thumb and forefinger working on the Avion....[emoticon] I thought I was the poster child for messing things up...[emoticon]

Yes it has a screen door / And I will make sure to save everything 69 Avion, I wont dare toss anything even when I rebuild the floor one day, Just in case one of you guys need anything that I cant use. Im sure I will rebuild floor soon or later and try and make a one piece aluminum rear cap and basement compartment so that the bottom is flat/ flush all the full length of the bottom of TC, Just in case I want to set it on a flatbed freightliner at times. The problem is this would make the whole TC sit a few inches Higher, and its already high enough, I can barely raise my TC high enough to get my Dodge under it now. But having a welded aluminum Basement under this thing would make it so Once it was on a flatbed I could scoot it around with straps if need be, No part of the Original camper would be touching the Truck. Do any of you fellows have problems getting yours up high enough? My truck is only 2wd It doesent set that High. I guess it just made me nervous because Im used to electric jacks.

Lol, I almost spit my snuff out across the room when I read that, This is the thread for me, And I very much appreciate all the good advise and will use that advise accordingly, These campers are so cool, I went outside to feed my Horse, Hogs and pen my chickens up and I just stood there admiring my camper, I have a little heater fan going in there and everytime I walk by it I stick my head in or go inside and relax. Do you guys ever go outside and sit in yours? I bet Im not the only one. I cant wait to take it to Arizona and Boondock on my little campground I bought.

CajunAvion, I would like to know a little more about that system. I had envisioned building something to make it easier to load but had not put a plan together yet, What do you do? place that aluminum sled in truck and get camper started up on it, Then back up?

Do you have a three jack system or a four jack system? I carry my camper on my 02 F350 4x4 CCSB that is stock, with a leveling kit up front, Stable loads on the overloads, and 265x70x19.5 tires that are 34.2" tall. My jacks are the four jack setup, and they just barely get the Avion high enough to clear the bed with no air in the Airbags. And I usually have a piece of plywood under the tripods. I have even had to dig a trench in my gravel driveway to load the TC due to settling over the winter into the driveway....

They have a set of extensions for the jacks, but at $176 for the set, it may be awhile. I also have about 4" that was added to the bottom of my C10. On a Superduty, the added height is needed to clear the cab. I also already have a grey water tank mounted under the floor under the water tank, so a 4 or 5" basement in welded aluminum should clear most plumbing. But each person will have differing needs and requirements. If you are building a basement model, you could also lower the cabover base to gain headroom, or space for a thicker cushier mattress. Always lots of ideas....
Someday!

3 jacks on mine. And thanks GarryK6. Good Idea on the Basement. It also protects the TC.

My Avion has La Jaga jacks that Cayo told me they never used. I was there when it was picked up from the dealer so I know they are original. My jacks will go high enough to get it up on a 4x4 truck, but barely. If I needed to go higher, I would just put spacers under the tripod stand for each jack. Most Avions came with jacks that are the predecessor to the Reico Titan jacks.
By the way, after researching the La Jaga jacks on the internet, I found many Avions with these jacks. They were designed for a 3 jack system and they aren't made to get into the camper when it is on the jacks. They are self equalizing in a way since they will equalize the load but you can push the camper sideways when the camper is in the air. I'm still looking for an extra jack crank handle for mine.
