Topic: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photos

Hi there NJ. Thanks for the compliments. We have the shades attached to a fastener on the bottoms of the windows or doors. However, you're right, it is flimsy and tends to either come loose or break. So, we will pull the shades when underway. The interior paint is the OEM Zolatone which is awfully hard to mess up. It is used nowdays for the trunks of cars among other things. But back in the day it was the interior paint for Avions and Airstreams, as I understand it.

My concern with the fire extinguisher is that it needs to be reachable from the outside, as you suggest, but my storage door is right handed and blocks me from the outside. I'm thinking of locating the hand grip about mid way on the right as you enter the coach, and perhaps the fire extinguisher could be placed above it....the area between the back door and the bathroom door.

67 Avion , That looks fantastic , a little modernizing but still maintaining the flavor , good job .

I am still struggling with the fire extinguisher myself . It is still loose in the bottom of the wardrobe . I am actually thinking of two , one at the door and one near the bed in case I have to blast my way out . It also make a handy deterrent against an intruder .

67avion, very nice job. I know that you will enjoy it. What is nice about the Avion campers is that they will last for many decades.

Oh, I know you were teasing. And it made me laugh as well. Your comments are always more than welcome. I can't think of another Avioner that is as knowledgable or as generous as you. Many thanks for your continued help.

Today I completed tearing out the passenger side " wing " wood. Wow what a nasty job. But now I can make a template and start laying up the replacement. I think I'm going to go with 1/4 plywood, 3/4 plywood then 1/4 and 1/4. Each layer with plenty of varnish/polyurethane and glued to the previous layer.

So true. I think almost everyone here has been through the "wing" business. It sounds like your idea of the three sheets of ply, with poly etc, will prevent the water issues from taking hold again. But, I wonder if its a bit of overkill? Not that there's anything wrong with that. I am definitely guilty. If you choose you can really strengthen the supports for the jacks. I sometimes wonder if I made a mistake by not adding a fourth jack when I had the wings wide open.

I'm going to rebuild this once and that's it ! I think my plan of multiple layers will be strong without too much additional weight. I'm going to be adding a Stable Lift in place of the wobbly******that came from the factory. Between my multiple plys of plywood and the full length steel top plate of the Stable Lift I anticipate no structural problems for the next 50 years !
