We've done that: had our own marathon of bad movies, usually Sci-Fi or classic movie channel. We get a really good nap starting halfway through the first one. When we awaken, it's somewhere around the middle of the third in sequence. Naps are great ... And cheap. I would cue from Spotacus and climb in next to him. Cats are smart: bad weather is bed weather. [emoticon]

A second cold front hit yesterday. No chance of getting anything further from the garden. On the up side, it rained or misted all day long, so we got some very much needed moisture.

WLToo got new batteries into the RV, so we have power there. Still needs new tires, but that's not in the budget just now.

Spotacus and Alex did sleep in the sun on the south porch today for a while, but decided to join us inside after we finished doing stuff with the RV.

I went to the library this afternoon, and when I came back, LD was approaching the gate. He stopped and waited while I parked and got the mail. I greeted him, and he promptly started toward me (I'm sure now that the neighbor hand feeds him), so I jumped back into the car and headed up the drive, while he strolled out the gate. On the way up, I saw a good portion of the doe herd in our meadow. Only Leoghaire came up to the house today, though.

Very tired from today's workout, so I'm joining Spotacus in bed early. Later, y'all.

Watching the animals is a good cue of how to deal with weather. They know when weather will be good and when it's time to nap.

Warmed up again, and we had a pleasant morning rain.

Spotacus feels the need for a whole lot of up close and personal attention from me these days, to the point of jumping on the island or the dining table just to get my attention. Don't know what's up with that, but he's healthy and more than happy to share his fur with me.

Alex now loudly announces when he pees. It lets me know where he is, anyway.

Haven't seen the deer the last couple of days, although WLToo says they've been around. Having my eyes buried in paperwork or online genealogy is why I missed them.

My best friend arrives on Tuesday. So looking forward to that. Meanwhile, have to help sister move ex-BIL into a new apartment, one he can maneuver around in with his Parkinson's until he qualifies for assisted living. Sure getting our cardio and resistance exercising in this week...

Break's over, back to housecleaning. Later, y'all.

We're between crowds at the moment, so I can actually sit at the computer for a time.

We took on Thanksgiving hosting duties from sister, who was still dealing with ex-BIL's issues. We rubbed a turkey with bacon fat, covered it in coarse ground pepper, and "fried" it in the Big Easy. Moistest turkey ever. Kept the rest of the meal simple, with green beans almondine, buttered corn, cornbread dressing, gravy from turkey stock, cranberry-nuts-marshmallow salad, chocolate pie, pumpkin tarts, and sweet potato pie. Turned out very nice.

Now we're trimming live oaks a bit more, so our friends' fifth wheel will maneuver into place without scraping the sides or roof, have finished the exterior Christmas lights, haven't even started the Christmas cards, still need to put up the tree, and finish re-arranging the music room so guests can sleep on the futon in there, and may well have to use the RV as another bedroom, because we will have a total of eleven folks here for Christmas. We're also hosting our local writers' group party.

Not doing anything complicated, but it does all take a bit of time to organize. Of course, this annoys both cats, for they don't have laps handy when they want one. Poor babies.

Well, I'm falling asleep as I type, so it's off to bed. Later, y'all.

No laps but least a big soft bed will do I'm sure.

Today we joined other members of our Harley Owners Group for a member photo session. Decided to do something different, so we got our annual group photo beside the B-25J Mitchell bomber "Yellow Rose," based at the San Marcos Regional Airport.

Yellow Rose

Like every airfield, it was breezy. Without the breeze, it would have been comfortable. With the breeze, it was rather cold. My long sleeve cotton shirt and H-D windbreaker were not quite enough. Should have worn my riding jacket. Oh, well, should be a good photo.

Got home and WLToo did another round of mowing. Another three or four days and all five acres (well, the mowable parts) should be done for the year.

There's a local custom I quite like, where people will select at random an evergreen tree by a roadside and put Christmas decorations on it. We decided to do the little tree just outside our fence. It's a Charlie Brown, sad looking little thing, but with a star on top, some garland, and a few shiny ball decorations, it looks pretty festive. Several neighbors stopped while we were decorating and told us how much they like it. I hope they do one themselves.

WLToo hasn't decided on the outdoor lights yet, other than to not run them along the fence across the driveway -- they might disturb our friends when their fifth wheel is parked there (in another day or two). I keep asking for the lights on the windmill again, since it was so nice looking, but I think he's feeling lazy this year.

We still need to put up the tree, send cards, and wrap presents, but for once we're pretty much ready for the holidays in the second week of December. That's a first.

To finish with the presents, poor Spotacus will lose all his boxes. Doesn't seem to bother him much right now; he's asleep on the table between our chairs, with his head pressed against WLToo's computer.

Alex is a confirmed lap cat again - if not mine, then anyone who sits.

A large buck came up to the porch this evening, scaring MDL and Leoghaire. Their startle startled him, so all three dashed off. We haven't seen LD lately; this buck is obviously one of his get.

Just got a message from a cousin that another cousin died. We first cousins are all reaching that age, drat it. Must go do family things now.

Probably shouldn't have said we were ready for the holidays--karma decided otherwise.

Later, y'all.

Quite like that idea of decorating a random tree. It cheers up folks.

Got more meadow mowed and the copse next to where our friends will park. Ran the weed whacker batteries down getting the copse done, so tomorrow will be the slope and assorted other spots we can't reach with the lawn tractor. Those two cold snaps in November really took the stuffing out of the wildflowers, so we're mowing a month or two early. Hopefully, we'll get enough rain this winter to have a nice wildflower display starting in March.

Spotacus got in a little trouble today. He clawed my hand, right where I have a grease burn. Now the blister is broken and the clawed part just plain hurts. So I trimmed his claws...

Alex started fussing for more food an hour after we fed him lunch. Grabbed a small pouch of food, added water, ran the immersion blender to make cat food soup, and put it down. He ate most of it on the spot. I guess the nice weather has him much more active, so he's honestly hungry.

MDL and Leoghaire came up about 4:30. WLToo had tossed some peanuts into their bowl. It was funny watching Leoghaire decide if she liked them or not.

Time to get back to wrapping presents. Later, y'all.
