Feline Fiddler on the Roof (from the song Tradition)
Away above my head, I see the strangest sight.
A cat is on the roof, just laying in the light.
Who got up there by climbing up a tree?
But then he seemed to freeze, and cried out for release.
So up we did climb to set the poor cat free,
And off he ran to get back home.
The Spotster, the Spotster! Spotacus!
The Spotster, the Spotster! Spotacus!
I'd go on, but it's already bad enough...![doh [emoticon]](http://www.coastresorts.com/sharedcontent/cfb/images/doh.gif)
We were calling Spot to come in for supper. WLToo heard Spot answering, but he never appeared. So WLToo went down the slope, thinking Spot was stuck up a tree, as he's not really the best climber.
Noooo, Spot was on the roof of our neighbor's house, where the black kitty lives. Black kitty was nowhere to be seen, possibly inside, and from the way Spot was calling, he couldn't figure out how to get down.
We went over, and the neighbors were not at home. WLToo saw where Spot had climbed up, and it wasn't quite sturdy enough to take his weight coming back down, even if Spot could figure out how. Luckily, they had a ladder laying on the ground, and WLToo set it against the porch roof.
As soon as his head was visible, Spot came running to him, but struggled when WLToo picked him up to carry him down the ladder. After a few seconds of claws grabbing the roof, then the ladder, WLToo got him free and down the ladder. Spot then ran under their porch. Great.
While WLToo put the ladder back, I walked toward the fence, calling Spot, and he shot out from under the porch and streaked over to me. But when I tried to get him to go through the fence and up to the house, he became velcro kitty and wouldn't leave me. He wanted to go for a walk with me, but since we'd driven over, I didn't want to chance walking back and him going off somewhere else (or me having to carry him all that way). I finally walked back to the Jeep, and he realized I was getting into it, so he trotted back to the fence.
We drove back around the fence and home. As WLToo put the Jeep in the garage, I went to the north porch and called. Spot came running, just as fast as his legs would carry him, talking all the way.
We're a little disappointed. All this time, Spot has stopped at the fence line and not invaded their property. Not only did he invade it, he sat on their roof.
He seems to be awfully happy to be home, though, so maybe he won't try that stunt again.
It would be as logical as

Another breakthrough! This evening, Spot jumped up in my chair and plopped down in my lap. OK, he more plopped onto my stomach and oozed down to my lap.
Alex was outside, instead of sitting on me, and I guess Spot decided to try it out. He only stayed about five minutes, but he purred like a motorboat the whole time. Then he suddenly jumped up and left -- I think his skin did the itchy crawly thing again.
He's not alone; my nerve endings are going nuts occasionally, too, and it feels like a fly is walking on me. Must be the weather.
Beautiful night; think I'll go outside and moonbathe.

Spot's in kitty heaven. Two large boxes got delivered today, and he's claimed them both as toys. Give the boy a box and he's thrilled.
Difficult to type right now; Alex thinks he has to head bump and knead biscuits all over me. It's just another way to tell me he thinks it's dinnertime. It's not, but he's nothing if not optimistic.
Gloriously beautiful day in the Hill Country. Almost time for my afternoon swim. I really hate it when the temps drop so much that it's too cold to swim anymore. The pool cover has kept the water temps in the high 70s to low 80s, which is perfect for me, but WLToo thinks it's too cold. If La Nina hangs about, though, it just might stay pretty warm this winter and I can keep swimming.
In fact, it's too pretty to stay inside on the computer. I'm off to watch the birds and deer.

Me too...glad it wasn't what I first thought.
We are back from our three weeks in Colorado...Enjoyed beautiful weather, awesome leaves and an early snow. Tiger and Blackie went with us. Tiger is the "alpha" cat at home, but when in the r.v. Blackie takes over...now that we are back home, there seems to be a battle going on as to which one is going to take over. I'm betting on Tiger.

Oh, sorry, folks, I wasn't thinking. Spot's fine, Alex is fine. WLToo's anti-tremor meds have made him fine. Me? I don't know when I've typed the wrong thing....
Today started off with fog so thick, we couldn't see our fence across the meadow. Didn't begin to burn off until about 10:30, but once it did, the day was glorious.
Mama Doe and the others are so enjoying the new shoots of grass that she doesn't come dashing up to us now, looking for a handout. Her ribs are no longer visible, so I guess she's getting enough food that she doesn't need to come to us. When we offer something, she'll certainly come and take it, though, but she's not desperate anymore. We'll keep watering the grass around the house, though, so they'll still have something through the winter. Meanwhile, the live oak acorns are dropping, and apparently they're a great treat, because all the deer are eating as fast as they find them.
Haven't seen a hummingbird in a couple of days, but we do have autumn wildflowers in bloom, so maybe they don't need the nectar. We'll know in a few days if they've all left.
Good night, all.

Wind was howling today, and the high temp was only 70, so it felt a mite chilly. Spot went out a couple of times, but very quickly was frantic to come back inside. Alex stuck his nose out the door once and decided not to even bother.
The deer herd grew by three more today. I'm guessing they're taking refuge from the bucks, who are just now starting the contests over who breeds the does. Even Mama Doe's twin bucks from last year are sticking close to Mom.
Came home tonight from a "coffee with the author" at the library, and realized it's time to do the eyes constantly on the sweep from one side of the road to the other. The deer population here is so large that the rutting season guarantees many deer will be hit by autos. We don't want our autos to be the ones.
Low will reach 42 by 0600. I guess autumn has finally arrived.
Good night, all.

A couple of cool days, and we're back into the 60s as lows and 70-80s as highs. Yesterday, WLToo decided he still wants to swim, but 78 degrees was too cool for him (it's fine for me), so we turned on the pool/spa heater and raised it 4 degrees. Can't do that very often, the propane to do it is not in the budget, but it was nice.
Spot and black kitty got into a serious fight last night. We broke it up with a flashlight and a couple shouts. Luckily, Spot's fur is so dense that he got nothing but minor dings. Don't know about black kitty, but I doubt he was much injured, either. I do wish black kitty would get the message and stay on the other side of the fence. It's safer for them both.
Alex was asleep in my lap, when something startled him awake and he flew off the chair. His hind feet left three deep and two shallow gashes in my leg, so it's a tad tender today. But I have so many cat scars, what's five more?
One of Mama Doe's twin bucks actually approached me yesterday, when he saw the bag of carrots. He didn't get too close, but didn't flinch as I tossed the carrots toward him. I thought, in the dusk, that it was Mama Doe -- oh, well, the carrots went to a good cause.
The hummingbirds are gone, or else the late blooming wildflowers are enough for them. No one's been anywhere near the feeder in days now. And our Hill Country hummingbird reference and survey arrived yesterday...
The only wildlife still visible are the deer, which we don't see near as much now, the resident mockingbirds, and the black headed vultures. Oh, and a crow is hanging about now.
And some flies and tiny little annoying flying somethings...I miss those barn swallows.
Off to a Halloween costumed wedding. Yep, we know some interesting folks.

You just reminded me of that Subaru commercial, the one where the newly married couple is camping out in a tent, it starts raining, the tent collapses, she winds up in the car while he tries to salvage the tent and everything else...in short, it's a total disaster, but she seems to find it funny. I know this is a commercial, and these are actors, but does anyone actually do this kind of thing for real?
