Your experience with the local band brought back great memories for me. My dad was a piano/percussion trained musician. After WWII his focus turned to education as shrapnel in his hands limited his time playing. We had a marimba and snare drums in our basement and dad gave private lessons to students.
While he didn't join our local community orchestra on a regular basis, he did perform with them when they needed "special" additional musicians. The one I remember most is him playing tympani when they performed the 1812 Overture.

Well, this year's Christmas glitch was our fault. The honey baked ham was delivered frozen. Spousal Unit took it out of the shipping container and left it on the countertop for a few hours, then put it into the refrigerator. Only he didn't put it in the refrigerator, but in the freezer. We noticed that this morning...
Heated the oven to 350, turned it off, and put the ham in to thaw. It worked nicely. As usual, we overate excellent food, watched Christmas movies, and enjoyed company of family and friends.
Hope you and yours had a wonderful Christmas Day.

Mother Nature is thoroughly messing with the local meterologist. Sunday forecast was for dense fog until mid-morning, then sunny. It was dense fog until mid-afternoon and cloudy. Monday's forecast was for dense fog until mid-morning. I drove to the big city and back early in the morning, and not a speck of fog to be had. Today's forecast was warm and humid, but mostly clear. It's almost warm, definitely humid, and overcast, with a touch of fog. Supposed to be 80 degrees on Friday and sunny. We'll see...
Christmas presents were well-received. No leftovers to eat up. All is quiet. Santa brought me a cowbell, painted white with "More Cowbell" written on it. I love it. Will add to my miscellaneous percussion instruments bag for the band.
Tall and Short Friend will not be returning from Minnesota today. Weather and airline issues. Maybe tomorrow. They did sell the Fifth Wheel (well, she put down a deposit and is applying for the loan) the day before they flew up there, so today Spousal Unit broke down the ramp he built for when Mom was living in it.
On the wildlife front, a couple of really nice looking bucks are doing the daily trek around our fence line, and sometimes coming into the meadow. We haven't gotten good photos of them yet; they insist on coming after the best light has faded.
Harley got upset last night and scratched my hand. It's nothing, just a little stingy. But on top of the bite Nephew Two's cat gave me Christmas Day (cat hates me since I took him to the veterinarian when he was desperately ill as a kitten), hand is a mite sore. I keep scratches and bites open to drain a couple days, while spraying with hydrogen peroxide several times a day. When the red is mostly gone, I let them close up. It's been working for years, and I rarely even have a scar. Harley's scratch is already clear; Monty's bite is a touch red and warm, so another day with the hydrogen peroxide should do it.
Not much else is happening around here until this weekend. Trombone Player and Clarinetist, two of my college buddies, will be here to celebrate the new year. That will be lively...
Later, y'all.

Glad to hear your almost "ham-tastrophe" didn't happen. We had bacon-wrapped ham along with the usual sides plus a few new ones. Cats don't like changes in their routines so that doesn't surprise me. Holidays are especially upsetting with people coming and going. Ours will go to their favorite hideouts and wait for all the 'intruders' to leave.
Happy New Year and praying it's a much better one health-wise.

Dealing with some weird rash/itch on the scratched/bitten hand. If the germ-killing cream I already have doesn't help by tomorrow, off to the dermatologist. Sheesh.
Cold front hit Saturday night. We had four hours of below freezing temps, but with 25-30 mph winds all day, so it was a sunny and very cold day. Last night, we had below freezing temps for nearly 10 hours, but no wind. Sunny now, no wind, and will be back into the normal range by tomorrow.
Weather is making Czarny very unhappy. Wind was too much for his ears yesterday, and today isn't quite warm enough as of his last trip outside. He's napping on his bedroom tower. Harley, meanwhile, has finally trained her humans as to when it's playtime and when it's her naptime. We got her a new baton and dangly string and she was all over it before Spousal Unit had it fully out of the package. Then we found out why she refused all the cat treats of late: they were not beef. Bought some beef treats and she's a happy girl again. As long as it's a particular brand, Czarny doesn't much care which flavor.
Trombone Player and Clarinetist had a good time; they needed to relax and got just that here. We made plans for linking up at minimum in June, at our university band alumni tribute to our most esteemed director there. He was the marching band director for 30 years, and at 90 can still name every band member and tell stories about each of us.
Almost time to apply the next dose of cream. Later, y'all.

Wow, time flies...
We signed up Harley with a local rescue that has a program for over 65 folks who want a pet but can't afford one. The rescue will provide food, vet care, etc. and the pet stays with the person as a "permanent foster."
A potential "foster mom" will be here tomorrow to meet Harley. If they click, we'll provide a month's food and treats, her litter box and extra litter, all her toys and her blanket, food and water dish, etc. Then we'll sign Harley over officially to the rescue, and they'll take care of her needs from then on.
I hate having to give up an adult cat, but this is the best for both her and Czarny.
Meanwhile, the RV is not happy with us. 110 goes into the inverter, but doesn't come out. Local repairman said when the batteries get below a certain percentage, the inverter doesn't work. So we put the battery charger into operation, and we'll know by Saturday if the inverter is still good.
Spousal Unit is working on getting his books into hard copy format, so he can sell one or two at a SciFi convention in early April. I'm working on a couple of short stories for some anthologies. Otherwise, it's pretty quiet around here.

It is very hard to rehome, but it sounds like you found a great program and solution for Harley.

A lady met Harley last week and fell in love. The rescue provided her with all the necessary equipment yesterday, and she'll take Harley home today. I'm thrilled for Harley to have a home all to herself, without previous cat odors (she did have a dog a few years ago), and a work at home human. Still, seeing her leave and knowing Harley will grieve for Spousal Unit for a while kinda hurts on her behalf. It just reinforces the fact that I'm a terrible candidate for fostering...
The RV is back up to snuff. Our first trip will be in April, to a small gathering of writers. The SciFi convention a couple weeks later will not involve the RV or Czarny. He'll either stay home and Short Friend see to him, or he'll go to the kitty hoosegau -- haven't decided which yet.
Oops, time to finish clearing off the island. Sunday dinner is our turn today.
Later, y'all.
