Another animal adventure day. Went to the Sherwood Forest Faire, and while we were there, sister got a call. Both her dogs got out. The young one doesn't go anywhere, so she stayed on the porch. Her old Aussie shepherd went walkabout, but he's so old that he was easy to intercept. The interceptor read his tags and called the vet, who called a relative, who retrieved both dogs and put them back in the yard. That relative is the one who brought Bobbi to us.
At least this adventure didn't involve vet bills.
She has two other pets; hope we don't have more adventures with them.
Meanwhile, early this morning there was simply no chance of me sleeping, so I worked on the computer. Suddenly, a large white paw appeared on each side of the screen, then the screen was pulled down. Spot is not supposed to be on the table, but he just could not resist trying to get me to play.
So I spent quite a while in the wee hours, playing first with just Spot, then with him and Bobbi. Alex and WLToo never even stirred.
I won't be staying awake much longer tonight, so I have to go play the excitement out of the two younger ones. Night, y'all.

Today was a beautiful spring day. We continued to clean the swimming pool of the few live oak leaves that got past the pool cover. Bobbi and Spot provided occasional supervision, in between chittering at the birds and chasing each other.
They're inside for the night, impatiently waiting for their evening treats. Alex hasn't come back inside yet; he was busy watching Mama Doe graze her way around the house just before dark, so he may still be following her.
Mama Doe is utterly unafraid of the cats now. Bobbi in particular will get as close to her as possible, usually within a foot, before Mama Doe stomps a hoof. Bobbi's trying to play with Mama Doe, now that the fawns have joined the main herd.
After we cleaned the pool, I sat on the north porch and read. I do love my Kindle and all the free downloads out there. Finally getting around to reading some of the classics. Working on an Edward Bulmer Lytton Lytton right now - he of the "it was a dark and stormy night" phrase.
Hmmm, I see Spot is starting to patrol the doors and windows again. Must go see if I can see what he sees. See?

Sorry to hear about Levi. Can you tell us about him now?
Spot's coloring is fairly common around here, except for the white spot on his spine. Our realtor called yesterday and offered us another one, but this house is too small for more than three cats. We'd have to add a room just for the litter boxes...
We got the swimming pool cleaned and as soon as the temperature gets a couple degrees higher, I'm in it. Spot has taken up an overwatch position on the pool's deck side farthest from the house, where he can see most of the meadow. I haven't seen hide nor hair of the latest cat, but Spot's not decided that it's gone yet.
Spot and Alex are in their usual napping spots, and Bobbi is out doing whatever it is she does. All three went to the mailbox this morning, then Spot walked across the road to dig a hole. He then sat in the road, sniffing something. I was about to walk over and pick him up, when he finally decided to come back. Luckily, no one drove down the road the whole time.
Spot only goes outside the fence when he walks with us to the mailbox, but I was concerned for a bit. Alex doesn't go out there at all; being a cat from the Virginia suburbs, he knows about traffic. Bobbi doesn't even get close to the gate; we think she was hit by a car -- she's afraid of our cars, too.
I see Spot's on the dining table -- time for some kitty discipline.

"Eep! Eep! Eep!"
Oh, great, somebody caught a rabbit. I went outside and, sure enough, Spot was running back to the house with a baby rabbit. I stopped him, he dropped the baby, and it was luckily unharmed. So I grabbed Spot and brought him inside, while the baby rabbit departed at speed.
Spot's been pacing around the house, looking out each window and howling. I'm not letting him back out today, so the rabbit can get far away.
This is the first thing he's caught since he arrived, and I'm so glad to see he had no real concept of hurting it. Reminded me of Heidi, who would bring baby rabbits home to play with them. Never once did she hurt one.
Bobbi just came inside, after playing in the meadow with the twin fawns. I guess Mama Doe decided the greening up grass in our meadow is better for the twins than hanging out with the herd. We'll see tomorrow if they're still out there, or if they jumped the fence back to herd side.
Alex is still outside. If he doesn't come in by 10:00 pm, he doesn't get treats, so I expect him any minute now. He does love his treats.
Went to clean Spot's litter box and found a small scorpion walking around in it. Sigh. It's spring. Time to get the scorpion spray out.

Wow, and I thought the giant cockroaches that we enjoy in the summer were bad...
I also thought I had quite a menagerie, but I only have cats, dogs, bunnies and (humming) birds. Enough to keep me busy, but no deer!

The deer are not pets. They just live here. Mama Doe knows we won't hurt her or her fawns, and that we provide water and a mineral block just for them, but otherwise we keep a reasonable distance from each other.
A neighbor feeds a grocery sack of something every morning. The entire herd (about 20) shows up. They consider her part of the herd and have no problem jostling her, which is very dangerous. We're not going to do that.
We also have mockingbirds, barn swallows, mourning doves, cardinals, scrub jays, roadrunners, one large gray fox, a stray hummingbird or two, monarch butterflies, tree frogs, turkey vultures, black vultures, and now a baby rabbit hanging about. I just wish some of them would eat the danged scorpions and save us having to play with chemicals...
Then we also have the giant red-headed centipede occasionally wander across the porch, which immediately drives us and the cats right into the house, until it goes away. Giant Red-headed Centipede
Yep, the wildlife is diverse around here.

Found this on "DesertUSA"
Quote: As well as being predators, scorpions are also prey. Many types of creatures, such as centipedes, tarantulas, insectivorous lizards, birds (especially owls), and mammals, including shrews, grasshopper mice, and bats hunt scorpions for food.
Now you just need to figure out which one(s) you want to try to bring in...

Spot tried to stuff his huge self into a little mailing box. I went out to the garage and got him a much bigger box. He's been making noise, jumping in and out of it, taking toys into it and batting them about. Just an overgrown kitten.
Bobbi's angry with me again. She came inside for her evening treats, and doesn't understand the rule -- get evening treats, stay inside. But she still doesn't object to napping right beside me.
My sweet Alex spent most of the day napping inside or on the porch, took a walk with me, and wanted to be carried part of the way back. I'm amazed that we still have him at nearly 15 years, considering the number of times we almost lost him. At least some of his adventurous proclivities have calmed a little.
'Scuse me. Three cats suddenly want my undivided attention.

Mama Doe is clearly comfortable here. Just before dark, I saw her getting a drink at the little water trough. Spot was on the other side, standing up on it and trying to sniff her nose. Bobbi was right beside her, getting a drink, too.
I think my cats are part of Mama Doe's mini herd now.
Wish it hadn't been so dark -- would have made a great picture.
