We're gradually emptying the boxes of stuff that Mom insisted had to come to her Independent Living apartment, and then decided she doesn't need it after all. Sigh. Anyway, we try to empty one box per day. Spotacus has been having a great time inspecting each box, no matter the size. Huge cat, tiny box = major cuteness. And naturally he leaves before the camera gets focused...
Spotacus' routine: Sleep tucked up against my back until just before dawn. Wake me up to go outside. Come back inside within an hour. Wake WLToo up to get his morning kibble (or if I'm up, walk me into the laundry room so I can see him stare at the cat food container). Eat, get a big drink of water, go back to bed. Sleep until late afternoon. Go back outside and sleep under the glider sofa. Come back inside at dark and wallow all over his humans. Eat, big drink, back outside to sleep in his favorite chair until the humans insist it's bedtime. Treats, bedtime.
Oh, the life of a cat...
Well, time to go hang Mom's pictures. Later, y'all.

Humans can learn a lot from keeping that kind of routine.

Spotacus is none too happy at the moment. Last night was the monthly application of flea/heartworm killer/preventative, which always makes him feel a little punky for a day. He did sleep all night, not getting me up at o'dark early to go outside. He stayed plastered up against me until I got up about 0815, and still didn't want to go outside until about 0900.
Considering how hot it's been the last three weeks, I'm amazed at his tolerance for the heat. But he's perfectly comfortable on the concrete under the porch glider sofa and stays there most of the time. He only does his patrols in the very early morning or after sunset hours now, judging from when I have to pull burrs out of his coat...
Speaking of hot, we're in a drought. For the first time in the seven years we've lived here, our water company put us on stage one restrictions. We can only water (or add to the swimming pool) on Monday and Friday. We just water around the house; the meadow is on its own. So the restrictions won't mean much for us, other than to put us on a better schedule than we've been doing. It's kind of surprising that they enacted stage one, when they never did during the really bad drought in 2011 and 2012.
On the up side, we'll pick up L'Andante from Texas Custom Coach on Friday. It's too late to make a trip up to Wisconsin to visit Tall and Short Friends, who've been volunteers at a park up there, but she'll be ready for us to go back to Mom's old place for the auction. And once we have her all inspected and ready for more long trips, we'll put the Rockwood up for sale. Really nice trailer, but we've learned we're just not trailering types; we definitely prefer our motorhome.

Here in SoCal, we were on water restrictions last year, too. Funny, after a few months the Water Co sent notices telling us to go ahead and do that extra load of wash, take a long shower, flush EVERY time! Oh, the luxury! Not that we suddenly had more available water, No, but the WC shareholders were mighty worried and the drop in monthly income. Back to our wasteful Cali ways!

We prefer our motorhome too. It's much easier to toss in the food and clothing and hit the road in a hurry.

Not to mention the infinitely larger amount of storage space, or the hanging wardrobe that can actually hang adult sized clothing...
Spotacus prefers the Class A, too. He can use the litter box when he needs it, he can sleep in his carrier or the little cave behind the sofa, or sit on the passenger's lap and watch the world go by. He really is the best traveler.
We had watermelon last night. I cut up the rinds into bite-sized pieces and put them in Lassie's old dish and put them on the porch. This morning, Leoghaire found it and chowed down. The young buck accompanying her did not even sniff at it, just continued to graze. We did not know if Leoghaire would even try it, as she's always been so picky, where Lassie would try anything (including my wine).
Time to go get L'Andante. Later, y'all.

Sigh. L'Andante looks great, except for a few real important things.
The gap between the floor and back wall was only partly closed. The gap directly above the generator is still there.
The new shower is 5" narrower than the old shower. Neither WLToo nor I fit, so that replacement's gonna have to be replaced.
The new upholstery on the dinette was only on the cushions, not the rest of it. Looks really bizarre.
That beautiful floor makes the old floor registers look terrible, so they'll replace them, too.
I guess we won't be taking L'Andante up to Mom's auction after all. Oh, well.
The deer herd came up to taste the watermelon rinds (on the porch edge, where we can watch from inside). While they were all chewing away, a beautiful fox strolled up, grabbed a big piece, and strolled away. We sat here and watched in amazement. No one out there got excited (Spotacus is still asleep under the glider sofa), just politely gave way to the next watermelon lover.
WLToo has the camera set up, just in case the fox returns for another piece.

I'm sorry your repairs were bodged. I can't imagine putting in a smaller shower - what were they thinking? Are you going to have to pay for this mess? Really, is there some kind of cognitive problem that they didn't recover all the dinette?
We're with you on adult sized closets btw.

Magnus, there was definitely some kind of miscommunication on the dinette. But they flat out mis-measured the shower. WLToo pointed out the line where the previous shower wall had been. And they admitted they should have automatically ordered new registers when they put in the floor, instead of just reinstalling those old rusted tacky ones.
When the main guy gets back on Monday, he'll call and we'll sort out the shower pay or not pay issue. The other stuff we would pay for, no sweat.
Most of the watermelon is gone from the porch. I do wonder how much of it the fox ate, or maybe another critter that may have wandered by, versus the deer. The fox didn't return during daylight hours, so WLToo did not get a photo.
Spotacus did dash suddenly from the bar stool to the spare bedroom just before bedtime. WLToo went to see what was wrong and found Spotacus peering out the bedroom door. Something came up that he saw and was perturbed by, but we didn't see it. Since he's not bothered by foxes, I can only guess it was something larger, like a raccoon, opossum or coyote -- or maybe an armadillo, which we don't see on the property much at all, but they're around here.
Have diddled away the morning on the innerwebs, so I'd best get to doing something useful. Later, y'all.
