I have a 100 gallon aux. fuel tank in the bed of my truck. So I can carry 135 gallons total. When I cross the border into Canada will I be charged any taxes on the fuel in the aux tank? I have heard that I might, but what about a MH which can carry a lot more in their dual tanks.

Click here to see my fuel log up to Fairbanks.
Update: A complete Alaska trip fuel log is now available and it includes a normalized graph that includes high and low fuel cost areas. 2013 Fuel Log.

My old Dodge has the same fuel capacity, crossed into Canada at Roosvile and near Carcross "up from Sgagway" the pasgt couple of weeks and they never asked about the fuel . We were able to fill up in Grande Prarie , Alberta , and make it all the way to Tok, Alaska via Sgagway and Dawson City "1800 miles" without being raped by having to buy fuel along the Alkan highway.

I've never been asked about fuel. Don't know why Canada would be concerned as they know you'll soon be buying their expensive fuel. Also you're the first person that's suggested a fuel tax. Maybe a Canadian they buys fuel in the US for the purpose of avoiding Canada's tax?
My tank is 130 gal about half what a HDT might carry.

You could ask at the border just to make sure they don't overlook anything and then report to us how much you paid.

We just got back from Alaska the end of June gone 4 weeks from Iowa. Just fill up at every station on the Alaskan Highway, some are closed and the informational signs don't say Closed. Never go below a 1/2 tank and don't count on the next station being open or being cheaper. Just get out your credit card and smile. Its a vacation!!

No. They care about you knowing where you are going in Canada, how long are you going to be there, and where are you spending the night. IF you don't have the right answers be prepared to go inside and answer a bunch of questions. They have ALL your records from the US as reference. Have your passports ready and don't volunteer information.

There are a lot of gas stations on the Hwy but some are often out of gas or the machines are down, ditto for the propane. We work camped up there for two summers and it was often a problem. So, get it while you can should be the motto when travelling up there.
