Know exactly how you feel....been planning this trip for over a year. Guess we just will not do as many paid tours as we would have before. Lots to see and do without all that anyway !!!

Spent the night in Fort Nelson at the Blue Bell Inn. Gas is $5.50 gal., they charged me an extra &10.00 for paying in US currency on a $200. tank fill. Camping was $21 US. This was first time anyone up charged for using US currency but was told BC really means Bring Cash.

We were in Alaska in 2007 and used the 'Milepost' as our guide for sightseeing and fuel stops. We never let our tanks get less than 1/2 full and had no problem.

Do all the stations carry Diesel? As you know, not all the stations in the lower 48 do, so just curious. Thank you.

Just got back from a 17,000 mile, four month, jaunt from SC to AK and back in our 2011 Winnebago View (Mercedes 3500 diesel).

There's a simple answer to this issue: when your gas tank gets to half full, stop for diesel at the next station. No worries.

Many/most northern stations do sell diesel along with unleaded regular. I would say a much higher per cent of Canadian stations sell both diesel and propane than does the average US station. Seem to see many more Canadians using propane as a vehicle fuel. I have driven a diesel pickup on our last 4 round trips to Alaska and never had a problem finding fuel. As mentioned, drive on the top half of your fuel supply. I have seen northern stations temporarily run out of either diesel or gasoline and are waiting for their next delivery. Some of the seasonal stations close when they sell the last of the fuel in their tanks, so one fuel may run out before the other. Most leave their storage tanks empty while they close for the winter, if they are only open for the summer.

Thank you for the replies. And even in the states we always top off at the half way point, so that will be business as usual for us.

We are planning ahead for next spring to drive from WA to Alaska. Is it better to get Canadian currency when we first enter BC? I'm thinking about the comments about paying cash for gas. Is it more to use the credit card? How is driving during May or June? Less traffic than in summer? Are things open in May or not yet? We are taking a class C. I read that Milepost 2013 will come out in March. Thanks for all the photos and posts.
