How low is it suppose to go? Can you get away with leaving the furnace on 40 degrees so it will only kick on to keep the trailer above freezing?

A couple of nights around 30ish and then day highs in the 60's. The low temperature this early sort of caught us off guard. Maybe it won't be that cold long enough each night to cause issues. It's at a seasonal site about 3 hours away so we can't get there until this weekend. We always turn the water off and loosen the hose connection. We keep the electric on for the fridge. So tell me more about this idea of leaving the heat on. If we undid the water hose connection outside completely, leave the water in the pipes as we would any other time between camp visits, and then set the heat to come on somewhere above freezing that would protect the plumbing inside? How warm do you think it would need to be inside to keep the pipes from freezing. If this help extends the length of camping we can do that would be nice. Guess its that time of year for these discussions! F250 Diesel Lariat Laissez les bons temps rouler! |

In the past when we were expecting a few nights of cold but then a long stretch of warmer temps afterward I would use the heat rather then winterize. If the lows at night were predicted to be around 30-32, I would turn the heat on the lowest setting. I would also leave the cabinet doors open below the sinks to let the air circulate near the plumbing. I think the camper will naturally retain some of the heat that built up during the day, and, combined with the heat it should stay well above freezing over night. I would also close windows and roof vents to hold in the the heat. If the lows were predicted to be in the high 20's, then I would be cautious and add antifreeze or blow the lines. I have done this many springs after de-winterizing and autumns before winterizing. |

We are camping too! Last night of our 10 day vacation to New Mexico. The only issue we have had is the fan on the AC runs with the heater. I know I have read others that have had this issues. DH just cut the breaker to the AC unit for this week. Does anyone have a solution? We have loved ours this week. We have a small ceramic heater we use instead of the furnace with the furnace for back up if it gets below 60. This has streached our bottles and keep us toasty at night. Only issues we have had with the bunkhouse is the mounting bracket to the front door gas strutt two screws sheered off leaving it dangling. DH removed it. We like it better where the door opens more. The other issue is the trunnel frame. It is junk. When we get home I think we will toss the frame and just use the mattress. We are talking about replacing it with a J or studio couch that folds out to a bed, and can be stored on another bunk or used as more seating. We spent 7 days just of the Enchanted Loop in Northern New Mexico at a wonderul little campground called Sierra Bonito. This was our 4th and longest stay there. They are very friendly and we couldn't do all we wanted in the time we had there are so many things to do in the area. It isn't fancy or new, but clean and friendly. Nola |

Nola I'm assuming you have the same digital thermostat I have that has three options: Fan, Cool, Heat. First select Fan and the make sure its set to Auto(Not low or high). If you have the fan set to low or high it will run anytime the furnace is on. It's easy to fix, just a little difficult to explain. Let me know if you have any questions. As far as the trundle is concerned, we didn't care for it either and ordered a second couch(same as one in living area) instead of the lower bunk and trundle. Still can sleep the same number of people but allows people to sit back there and watch tv. Trailer came with the couch and two end tables. We are thrilled with the way it came out. |

Thanks! Worked great! I don't like the couch idea, kids don't share well! Seems all of them are bed hogs. |

As far as the couch goes I only have a five year old daughter so it works great for me, but I could how it would be a problem for others. |

We have 5, from 9 to 15, so they are bigger and want their own space. The growing kids is why we traded our outback for this one. Great move! We love the added space. For anyone researching buying I would say go for it! After 10 nights we have given it a pretty good shake down trip.
