As we were leaving the Silver Bridge Memorial / Visitor center on the Ohio side I asked that you notice how wide the Ohio River Valley is...
... the railroad bridge that you see crossing in this picture is that high because when the river flooded the bridge would be just out of the water... and the flood wall is that high too.
Thank goodness for all of the dams and locks

Many of you will recognize this structure... I believe it is a river gauge... One of our TC friends works for the Corps of Engineers... he works with the river gauges over a large area. He and his wife have visited us in East Tennessee in her truck camper.

These plaques remind me... I had someone contact me a couple of years ago... the were into geneology and had spotted a name on a plaque in one of our pictures... wanted to know more aboutwhere we took the picture.

I was always facinated by the flood walls... and still have openings for people and vehicles to pass through during normal times.
A last look... I'll probably never make it back... there are just too many places on our bucket list.
