i'm sure that some of you are wondering... "why is he posting the picture above?"
Rio Grande University is a part of what has turned out to be my trip down memory lane. In the late 1940's and early 1950's it was Rio Grande College.
My home town was St Albans, WV.... some one or group sponsored the "St Albans Sportsmans tournament" using the High School Gymnasium.
They invited players from all over... mostly paid professionals. Some of the college plays that came played under fake names... money was changing hands and it would effect the college players eligability.
The seats were a premium... there wasn't much room. The gym had bleacher seats all around the playing floor... about 6 rows high. The balcony had about 4 seats high.
I lived 2 blocks away... and was in the 7th grade... like most kids I wanted to see the stars... one in particular... Bevo Francis.
Bevo had scored 113 points in a college basketball game... he was an atheletic and well coordinated player at 6'9" (unheard of back then) I don't remember what name he was listed as in the program but everyone knew who he was.
Several of us kids snuck in through a balcony window and made it to the floor after the game.
Bevo signed an Event Program that I'd found with his real name... To Chet, Bevo Frances... Wow! I was proud of it... kept it for many years.
He is still living I think... he was born in 1932... only 8 years older than me... Bevo would be 81years old... his records are still up there. ">n-us:IE-Address&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sour........ery interesting information take a look:

I'm seeing the College for the first time... but I've known the name all of my life.
Just a drive through.
