What the government can do is to guaranty the oil companies a minimum price for shale oil, say 75 dollars a barrel. This will get the ball rolling on shale production. Without this guaranty it will be years before they will risk the massive investment necessary.

One thing I don't understand (never have) is what benefit does futures trading have? Other than to make money for those doing the trading? What service does it provide?
I just had a big long post all typed up, was proof reading it, then I just said "Ah Heck With it". He don't get it, never will get it, has already decided commodities traders are the scum of the earth, and it would just be a waste of server bytes on him. Enjoy your delusions!

That is probably better than having your nice long post poofed, because, well just because.

Fortunately for me we have plenty of reasonable members here who want to engage in discussion instead of name calling and insults.

...unfortunately there are not enough reasonable members who can't do anything but "flame." We can choose to laugh at those jokesters, which most of them are, or we can give up like Wing Zealot did because: too bad...

I dont think any of us has all the answers and probably will never either, but I worked around the business for a long time and I do understand some of the working side of it. I believe still as just happen the prices finally hit a no-tolerate price and it appears folks have pushed back as of Memorial weekend and hence the prices are starting to slowly fall back. How far is anyones guess.
What I do think is that the oil companies do not owe us anything, cheap fuel etc. they are a business and they are in the business of making money. There again I have seen good times and real bad times when I worked there.
I think govt. controls would be the worst thing we could have happen. Its our own personal decisions on how much and what price to pay for fuel period. It affects me as much as anyone, but I adjust to what I need to do to continue my full time lifestyle.
If anyone person has all the answers talking about here on the rant forum probably not going to solve the world problems. Joking sometimes helps break the tension I believe.
