This is another of our sites this last year. It looks smaller due to the trees but is easily larger than the last dry campground we stayed in and that held 8 RVs. Our nearest neighbor was 3 miles away.

Must agree there is much more open land in the west and therefore the boondocking oppturnities are way better!
Happy Camping.

Happy Camping. X-2, there is like a 100 times more open land in the west, almost everything in the east is privately owned and or already built on. We have NO BLM land in the east, & if you just pull off the road & set up in most places, you would be greeted by a Cop or an angry land owner with a shotgun. I wish we had a lot of places to just pull off & boondock, but even then, you'd probably have to share your spot with a few hundred neighbors.

Even out here in Colo., you have to get acquainted with the lands to know where the 'good' places are.
Lots of real estate out here is Vertical.... mostly. lol

In the east you have to do some homework to find excellent boondocking locations.
I agree the area is built up but the spots are out there!
In Vermont there is the Green Mountain National Forest with plenty of spots for boondocking.
In New Hampshire there is the White Mountains et al.
In Maine there is the famous "Maine Northwoods"... A huge wilderness area.
Massachusetts...forget about it.
New York is not all city...the vast 6+ million acres of the Adirondacks gives you plenty of space.
Pennsylvania (Penn's Woods) has an abundant supply of remote areas.
Virginia and West Virginia have no shortage of wood hills and both state and federal land.
Time to study state maps, federal resources for National Forests etc. if you want to boondock in the east you can find a lifetime of locations to please any taste...deserts however are in short supply!
Plenty of my friends say I live in the boondocks up here on the NY/Vermont line with the Adirondacks in one direction and the Green Mountains in the other....we do however have electric most of the time...but a big shortage of neighbors...unless you count deer and cayotes.
Happy Camping

I love the San Rafael Swell! Out of all the places I have camped, this is my favorite so far. I usually camp right off of Buckhorn Draw RD. where are you camping there?
The scenary and riding there is second to none.
