MY 2008 GMC DUALLY WEIGHT IS 7,600 LBS. BUT I HAVE A 45 GAL EXTRA FUEL TANK AND A 2X2 TOOL BOX ACCROSS THE BACK. I TRY TO KEEP 10 GAL OF EXTRA FUEL ON BOARD FOR EMERGENCY'S. UNLESS I SEE A GREAT DEAL ON FUEL COST THEN I FILL HER UP. MY TRAILER IS SUPPOSED TO BE 16,000. BUT IM OVER WEIGHT A 1,000 LBS. APPROX. SO I PUT ON THE G RATED TIRES TO COVER MY EXTRA WEIGHT. BY THE WAY I FOUND MANY G RATED TIRES AT ====NEXTAG.COM/235-85-16-14 PR-TIRES/STORES-HTML====. I BOUGHT A SET OF "KENDA G LT TIRES" A SET OF 5 FOR $850 IN OKLAHOMA. YES THEY ARE MADE IN CHINA. BUT THE WAY I UNDERSTAND IT NOW IS THEY ALL ARE. |

I WOULD LOOK INTO A DUALLY FOR SURE. I HAVE BEEN AN AUTO MECHANIC FOR 50 YEARS. THE LAST 25 YEARS FOR A FORD DEALER. RETIRED 4 YEARS AGO.SO I KNOW ALLOT ABOUT THE BIG THREE TRUCKS AND THERE LIMITS. JUST FROM EXPIERANCE ALONE! I LIKE THE GMC BEST. EVAN THOUGH I WORKED FOR FORD ALL THOSE YEARS. WHEN YOU RAISE THE HOOD ON A FORD, YOU CANNOT SEE THE MOTOR. THERES IS TOO MUCH STUFF IN THE WAY. 2 TURBO'S. BUT WHEN YOU RAISE THE HOOD ON A GMC -YOU SEE A V8 DEISEL. EASY TO CLEAN AND WORK ON IF NEEDED. I KNOW ALLOT MORE ABOUT THE FORD FROM 25 YEARS OF REPAIRS. BUT I DONT WANT TO WORK ON ANYTHING ANYMORE! HA HA THE DUALLY GIVES YOU MORE STABILITY ON THE ROAD. ESPECIALLY IN SIDEWINDS GOING THROUGH KANSAS. IF YOU GOING FULL TIMING GO FOR THE DUALLY. |

cefloyd 1961 wrote: wow from reading all this I might need a new truck lol Im pulling a 40 ft sandpiper with a hd2500 ex cab 6.0 motor and heavy duty tranny with 410 gears and a pullright 15k hitch and the weight on the scales of my truck is 6065lbs. my dry weight is 10983lbs and my gvwr is 14175lbs and hitch weight is 2175lbs and on the sticker on my truck it says cargo weight 2543 The guy at the camper store said I would be fine so far so good what do you all think http://i1048.photobucket.com/albums/s363/CFloyd61/100_3696.jpg If the GCVWR (not GVWR) of your vehicle is 14175 then your combined weight (truck and trailer) should not exceed that. With a truck weight of 6062 your loaded trailer should weigh no more than 8113 lbs. With a normal loaded trailer of abt 1500 lbs of "stuff" added to your dry weight of 10,983 I would say your over by about 4300 lbs. The truck can handle the hitch weight but the combined is way over. Well I guess I really did expect it to be heavy, but here is the whole enchilada! Truck full fuel, fresh water full, propane 30 of 40 gallons available. Oh and car on back had 3/4 tank gasoline.

Just went to the scale today..... GCVWR= 24,200. 12,200 truck 12,000 trailer FAW=4995lbs Truck with hitch and full tank with driver = 8,210 Trailer only=8,630 Truck with pin weight= 10,180 Truck and trailer= 16,840 lbs Doing the math I have 23% pin weight. (edit it is possible I have a higher GCVWR than stated but I am only going by the door sticker and the plate on the trailer. I didn't look up fifth wheel style towing in the manual yet.

well after camping this weekend figured i would run my pickup and camper across a local set of scales, a 2003 chevy 1500hd, 2004 kz durango, loaded with water, sewer tanks about quarter full, 120 quart cooler in the bed still loaded with plenty of beverages (around 80#) a load of firewood in the bed as well, the total weight with 2 adults in pickup as well, 15,980#, pickup weighs around 6400#, with just pickup on sclaes it was 8000# so around 1600# pin weight, this is the most i would want to pull with a 1500 hd, does pretty well, mileage is nothing to write home about, but it does fine, run about 20# in the airbags, could run a little less yet as the rear of the pickup was actually a little high,my truck is rated for 16,000# gross, so not much more, but this is the heaviest it will be loaded!
