Does she have swelling in the hock? This was an acute injury/problem after going outside? I suspect a soft tissue injury/joint sprain if there are no radiographic changes. Treatment is rest and anti-inflammatories. Re-evaluate if no improvement in several days.

Yes there is swelling in the hock. Could the ligament be torn?

The major tendon/ligament is the Achilles, if that was torn I'd think it would be obvious. There are other collateral ligaments that could be stretched or partially torn. I probably would bandage a support wrap to help with swelling and pain for a few days then recheck.

Good morning everyone. It's another beautiful day here in the Deep South. Thanks Dr. Doug for the information. Suzie seems to be a little bit better this morning but I will wait to see how she does as the day wears on. Dixie want Suzie to play with her and doesn't understand Suzie doesn't feel like any wild activity. When Sue took Dixie for an evening walk Dixie didn't want to go without Suzie. Dixie has become Suzie's shadow and wants to be close to her everywhere she goes. I wish everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them. |

Good morning everyone. Suzie is so much better. She is out with Dixie and Sue for a walk this morning. She is not limping or favoring that leg. This morning when she came in from outside she was running through the house to get to the kitchen for breakfast. So glad to see he better. It's cloudy this morning, looks like rain, we need it. Lizzie just jumped on the back of the couch so she can see out the window to watch for the girls to come back. She loves Dixie so much. She will groom Dixie sometimes when Dixie is lying down being still long enough. I wish everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them. |

So glad Suzie is doing better! My Nimrodel hit a patch of slick mud at high speed this morning and did the splits! Heart in mouth, I tell you, but apparently she's ok. Those strains and sprains are a real .... challenge.

Good Morning FOOFs The wife and I had a nice long weekend in Biloxi, MS this past weekend. It was nice to have a few days off of work and a short work week. I actually came back with a little more money in my wallet than I brought. My wife, not so much! I am glad to hear Suzie is doing better. Monty has blown out both his back knees chasing either birds or squirrels. The first time, he chased some birds in the back yard and wouldn't put weight on his leg for over a month. I had to take him to a surgeon in Tampa and after a $2100 surgery and several weeks of rehab, he finally healed. Then a little over a year later, he blew out the other back knee. Luckily it wasn't as bad as the other knee and it heeled on it's own but he couldn't walk on it for over a month. We haven't had a trip in the motorhome since March and we are both itching to take another trip. We have a week off scheduled the week before memorial day and are going to Lake Whippoorwill and then to Fort Wilderness at Disney. We have never stayed at Fort Wilderness so we are really looking forward to this trip. I hope everyone has a great day! Good morning everyone. Dr. Doug glad your fur baby didn't get hurt doing the split. Burch glad you enjoyed your weekend. Suzie is doing great, so glad she is improving so quickly. It's a beautiful morning here in the Deep South, wish I felt better. I have had two sleepless nights, doesn't make for a good day getting up tired. I wish everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them. Think I am going to take a shower, dress and sit in the recliner and maybe take a nap. |

Good morning everyone. It's cloudy with a chance of rain as the fur babies look forward to another day. We are well with a few exceptions that seem to be a part of growing old. We can't seem to find time for a camping trip as we look forward to doctor's appointments and other things going on. Holly, our granddaughter is graduating from Clemson next week so we will be going to there for a day. Grandson Joshua and his wife Maddie are coming to spend time with us next week also. Then Mother's day is May 12th. I will be preaching that Sunday and as an extra surprise daughter Robin and her husband Ed will be coming that weekend. The Old Fella Burke County Animal Rescue is still going strong. It's amazing the work they do and the lives they save. Old Fella would be proud of the legacy he founded. I hope all is well with everyone and I wish you a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them. |
