BTW - has the vet given any indication of how old he thinks Old Fellow to be? Just kind of curious...
And I'll ask, because I know everyone wants to know...what happened with his "owner".....?
Like the rest, I am curious about his so called owner too. How did he know to call you. How did he find out what happened to Old Fellow? I hope he does not have any other animals. Barb

The vet thinks Old Fellow is between the ages of seven to nine years old. Being neglected for so long has aged him a great deal.
Old Fellow is doing great. He is eating up the attention he is getting and has a sparkle to his eyes and a playful attitude at present. The vet bill is mounting up however. My wife is going to kill me when she sees what all of this is costing, but it is just money,---right??? I am anxious to see what the Vet does with his teeth, that is going to be a major project. I will keep you posted as things go along, but for now things are great for Old Fellow.

Dixie Flyer,
As I said before I love people like you. Not many people would work so hard and take so much time to catch this dog and take him to get good care. Thank you for being so kind and so dedicated to this cause.. It just breaks my heart to think of abused animals. Dixie Dew, the mighty Schnauzer, sends her love too.

PS: Do you think the local humane shelter should go out and take a look at those peoples horses? Just a thought and maybe a phone call on your part.

Mr. Dixie, surely the vet will make you a deal of some sort. I hope so! And I'm betting even the Humane Society might chip in some.
Yes, I know they need their money, too.
The call to the Humane Society about the other animals is a great suggestion.

Unfortunately to my knowledge, there is no such organization in our area nor in the area where all of this has taken place. SPCA doesn't exist for us so it is left up to each individual like myself to do what we can. By the way as to how he looks. Old Fellow has a jet black coat that is rather short but with care will be very nice He weighs 35 pounds now but I expect he will weigh about 45 when he is well. He looks strange because of his teeth, but the Vet is going to take care of that. His height is about 24 inches at the front shoulder.

Yay - glad to hear he is doing so much better and getting used to REAL human contact! Are you still considering keeping him or are you waiting to see if your wife lets you live?
You are right - it's only money. Sometimes knowing you did the right thing, particularly concerning the small and defenseless, is worth much more than what it cost (but I think you know that already... ).
It's heartwarming to see someone act on the courage of their convictions AND have a positive result.....except for that wife letting you live thing, of course!
We are all very proud of you!

Dixie thank you for the info and good news. It would seem someone has an obligation to take that rancher out - not in the Tony Soprano sense of course. well, maybe.

Hummm... Tony Soprano taking out the animal abuser Rancher? ![biggrin [emoticon]](http://www.coastresorts.com/sharedcontent/cfb/images/biggrin.gif)
I don't know, that sounds good to me...Tony beat the heck out of his nephew for accidently sitting on a little dog and smothering it...just kidding...Barb

All I can say is good job Dixie Flyer since the good health shining in his trusting eyes and the loving home Old Fellow gets will no doubt be all the THANKS you need. I am so glad I came and checked on this thread, I needed my faith in humanity restored a bit today. God bless you!
