Air tools are a pain for sure. The angled two headed chuck is good for front and outer duallys, but a straight on chuck might be better for inner rear wheels- I do not have one. I have lately started fumbling with a big dial air guage with a clip chuck on the end of a short hose - big hands, hard to clip inside either rear dually. 2005 Trail Lite 213 B-Plus w/ 6.0 Chevy

Well, I have some good old B+ mods to make your funky TL less so...It only took me 9+ years to quit griping and do something about all the cabover lumber clunking and other squeaking and rustling sounds on anything but a smooth road. The incentive was that in the hot months until October, our monthly RV runs are just to a restaurant or local day-use park to walk dogs somewhere different. State parks w/ one or two overnite stays are for cooler months rest of year. After 2 full days, we MAY have a quiet(er) MH. I removed our custom cabinet 3-sided shell (where big TV was) and organized some excess wires. Tried to access headliner from coach by removing green plastic trim from rear edge of curved plywood deck of overcab cabinets - no way it would come off w/o unglueing it. Could only peel back either end after I took buttons off green vinyl 'flanking walls' and loosened its top 5 or so screws. Put it all back w/ no action taken. Took out center cabinet frame for 1st time - the custom 3-sided shell removes for access to cabover wiring w/o taking this center frame/TV tray off. Found side cabinets were not secured to white vinyl covered 3/8" pressboard sheet ceiling - no screws, ceiling lifted up freely above cabinets. Added a block of wood to both cabinete to have enough area to sink a screw down thru ceiling pressboard and into cabinet top - SUPER stiffening effect on 3/4 plywood overcab deck. Deck is not secured along its front edge - it merely lays atop bottom of figerglass cabover cap. Figured out how to get domelite off headliner, drilled a hole right in the center of the plywood deck right thru the sheet metal that is the Chevy cab roof and hidden by cab headliner. Put a screwhead bolt thru it from top and held nut via a wrench thru domelite opening and tightened that sucker down. Used a 1/8" thick 3"x1" steel plate big spreader washer to grab more metal roof. This added more stiffness, tied plywood deck down, and will reduce squeaking due to roof sheet metal. Glued and screwed a 1x3 by 5' stiffener flat atop along front edge of plywood deck, put it all back together, and hope it all makes a big difference on next outing. Will let y'all know. Sure feels good to have finally tried to address this. * This post was edited 05/05/14 04:13am by burlmart * |

I bit the bullet and had Tireman dually metal stems installed and tire maintenance went from bad to great. The stems seemed pricey and I had them changed when I had the rig at the Chevy dealer for service. As for the kitchen we did much the same as QuietJake recommended. I also got a cutting board that snapped onto the stove grid with rubber feet that stopped that noise as well, used strategically placed tension rods in the upper cabs. to keep things in line, bubble wrap for noise, and when one of the cutlery drawer retainers refused to keep the drawer closed underway, I put an eyehook below the bottom drawer, strung a bungee loop thru it and stretched it over both drawer knobs, which solved that problem. We also kept all the 'household chemicals' in the undersink cabinet on the floor level. I made a divider for that area so they could not migrate into sensitive areas near the HWH. Converting the front overhead cabinet to a 'fold up' flat screen tv added great space for pillows while underway and they acted as a silencer and soft support for the tv. Thats all I can remember! How do the TireMan stems work? I have metal stems all around. I think the angled gauge and compressor head will work, but I still have to take the wheel covers off. Speaking of the wheel covers, I am missing a couple of the faux lug nuts. Can these be replaced or must I continue to be "exposed"? Dennis Siemsen Cresco, Iowa 2007 Holiday Rambler Augusta 213 B+ |

The tireman stems replace the originals. The are extensions, bent in a way to make the inner and outer air vales easily accessible. Worth every penny.

" I took buttons off green vinyl 'flanking walls' and loosened its top 5 or so screws. " I see I left out the term "-- these are the panels that hide the interface of the cab and the coach." Actually removed the top row of screws and loosened others to pull the panels back and work the green plastic plywood deck/cab headliner trim off at its ends. I cannot see how to fully remove it w/o ungluing, and I fear I could not reglue it as well as TL did. I would be curious to hear from Cheese, Snowman, and other TL 213 owners who looked into quieting the cabover. Did you find the flanking glass door cabinets unsecured at the top? I remember Cheese got headliner off and screwed the chevy sheet metal to the plywood, and I recall Snowman removed a towel and did something else. I cannot see how y'all got that dark green trim off to access the felt/cardboard headliner. |

I had the Pacific Duallies as well. Bought them from a guy in Colorado, his prices beat any others by far. Don't remember where I found him, tho' Ebay is a possibility.

I haven't had any noise issues from this overhead area--as of yet. Today finishing the 'slat project' for storing the foam overhead "out of the way". Would post photos but have absolutely banished the host photo guys from my account. What has proven to be best flooring/carpet stuff to easily keep clean? Another little problem, the magnetic switch for the power step keeps coming loose from the double-sided tape down near the lower screen hinge. We put new tape on last fall at the dealer, yet it has become unable to stay put. I could put small screws in the tiny holes in the ends of the switch to attach to frame, yet am reluctant to do such. |

"I haven't had any noise issues from this overhead area--as of yet. The noise has been the single most terrible issue we've had w/ the TL. I noted it to the sales guy when it was new, but was afraid they would not be able to figure it out, as the posters of many B+ rigs were having similar issues at the time. Ours is an '05 model. but I think we have a defective build - our noise has ben terrible, but all the things that have been posted to get at it have proven too unhandy for me. I had called a car interior shop ome time in hopes they could deal w/ the headliner...oh well, I hope I got it fixed finally. "Today finishing the 'slat project' for storing the foam overhead "out of the way". We just rough it on the stock dinette and sofa cushions - added a thin layer to three dinette seat cushions long ago, but nothing major. "Would post photos but have absolutely banished the host photo guys from my account. I think this is common - I see far fewer pics than I used to on the forums. I have used them to make myself clear only to see them deleted. It is a lot of hassle. "What has proven to be best flooring/carpet stuff to easily keep clean? We still have original vinyl and carpet. Have had a long carpet strip runner between the sofa and dinette to 'save' wear and tear from carpet under it. "Another little problem, the magnetic switch for the power step keeps coming loose from the double-sided tape down near the lower screen hinge. We put new tape on last fall at the dealer, yet it has become unable to stay put. I could put small screws in the tiny holes in the ends of the switch to attach to frame, yet am reluctant to do such. For a few years, I has some clear packaging tape to hold that magnet. Recently went to home depot and asked about double-sided tape to maybe do a better fix. The guy happened to have a roll on him and just peeled off about 8" or so. I put it on and it is sorta holding for now. That tiny screw hole, my big hands, and near blindness have kept me from the proper fix -- even TL workers seem to have avoided such tiny screws, it seems. |
