Here is another query, since I have you all up...

We travel with recumbent bicycles. The largest is a Rans Screamer tandem with a 75 inch wheelbase. To transport this with the RV, we needed a Draftmaster hitch carrier. I found one used (1/4 the price of a new one) but the drawbar is too short to reach the receiver tucked under the plastic bumper. I am considering a hitch extender.

How have the rest of you towed with these rigs? Any problems or advice?

A hitch extender should be no problem at all since the bikes and carrier are very light. I suspect you could easily accommodate up to 500 lbs of tongue weight, even with an extender. The prior owner of mine used to use a 15" extender pulling a heavy cargo trailer, but he did end up damaging the hitch. I wouldn't recommend an extender with a heavy trailer. I pulled my daughters Toyota Yaris on a two-wheel up car hauler all the way from San Diego to Boston and hardly even knew it was on there, even in the mountains. Lost only about 1 mpg pulling the car.

Because of the weight of the Draftmaster (60#) Screamer (55#) Volae Expedition (30#) and and BikeE (30#) the pounds add up. Still below 200, but the bikes travel vertically. I'll post a pic when I get it together

Cheeze1, does my user name make sense now?

2wheel.....we also have two BikeE's and love them. Too bad no longer available. Great cruisers.

I've checked the rating tag on our 2004, 213's Hitch last week..350#. I'm getting an aluminum chest set up as a trunk for our Alaska trip this summer. When we switch the Phaeton for the 213 in storage in the next few weeks, I have a local hitch fabricator making a 10" riser/extension and a frame for the box. When we picked up the 213 last year, I used a 12" hitch extender and our Demco Towbar to tow our Sport Trac back to Elkhart from Holland MI, without any problems at all.

Burlmart, that is pretty much what I want to do. Did you make all of this from scratch? How about the door?

Snowing outside now in Minnesota on April 21. Can you believe it?

My friend from LA DOT is a fellow bridge engineer and is also handy in his workshop at home. I drew it and he built and installed it (even stained the door from memory to match other doors).

He is from Bayfield WI, his dad had owned some of the Apostle Islands -- He is up there 2 or 3 times a year in snow or otherwise.

Martha is a born and raised St. Paul Minnesotan - she knows snow, and has mixed feelings about the white stuff/

A few years after we married, I needed a PhD to keep teaching, so off we went to the U for 2.5 yrs to gain a little knowledge (but being married, I was not focused on the second thing Jimmy Buffet ascribes to collegiares. I saw and enjoyed your country very much, imcluding the snow. I once (1988, I think) walked to school from married housing on Como Ave two miles in an Alberta Clipper at - 45 degrees and froze my nose hair! Walked back, too (Uphill both ways, as I recall!)

Hope the Buffet vid brings a warm Gulf breeze up your way.

2wheelluge - Have you considered pulling a very lightweight trailer like this Sports Rig. Here is a picture of one -

They are a little pricey, but you get most of your money back if you decide to sell a used one. [emoticon]

Hello all,
I need help in knowing how much I can tow with my 2007 Holiday Rambler Augusta Sport. What do I need to know about my RV or Hitch to determine how much I can tow.

Thanks
Ralph
