Burl, I'll have a better idea once we've camped over the next several days. Everything is trial and error now. For starters, I put a rolled up 4x6 thin outdoor rug; a covered 5 gal bucket containing fresh water hoses, filter, towel, and related stuff; outdoor extension cord, camp shovel, CATV cable, dog tie out, exterior entry mat. It's not using much of the space. I recall reading the mod about using the upper area from the interior. At this moment, I can see doing something like that but not going full depth from the interior side. That would leave some area that is still 48" tall. For instance, we have a 10x10 foot screen room which packs 48x8x8. So I'd not want to lose the entire 48" space. But I'm never going to need all of it.

Currently RV-less but not done yet.

We are completing a 1500 mile trip in our TL. Everything worked well. The rig handles well, although it has been very windy every day and we do get blown around more than I'd like. I'm guessing that is normal for a MH? It's not a white knuckle feeling, but I had to stay on top of things.

MPG has been 10-11 running the speed limit. That includes the extra drag of new tires, ethanol gas, and a lot of hills and wind. Not too bad. I think we could do better going 60 on a calm day.

We can just barely live with the space. It would be easier without a 70 lb dog laying in the middle of everything. We both agree that a dinette slide out would be a great improvement space-wise.

We saw a clone of ours going the other way on I-65 in southern Indiana last week. Was it any of you?

Wind will buffet the MH and wear you out more.

We have rarely hit 12mpg.

If you can stand the work and a second twin bed, redoing the dinette like the sofa wull open up as much floor as some slides provide.

We were here, so maybe you saw Cheeze leaving NJ.

How was the new bed?

The new bed is excellent! Temporarily I am using a foam mattress that is too long, and so is jammed upward at the front corner. It shows me that you could have a longer bed, albeit with the corner of the mattress clipped to fit. Maybe as long as 77", although the passenger seat could not recline.

And I mean a longer mattress on top of a 69-70" box. No need to make the box longer.

I guess I didn't choose my words well when I said we can just barely live with the space. What I meant was the space is about the bare minimum for us. We like it but would not go any less on space.

A correction worth making!

We spent so ,uch time trying to find THE smallest space we could tolerate so as to minimize the outside dimensions for Martha, the sole driver, to comfortably handle. I was willing to live with B vans (barely), but she was more realistic and insisted they were too small.

We had the epiphany that a rig of our size was just right as a compact hotel suite, and have therefore appreciated it as such ever since.

Our biggest issues were 1) developing the habit of being patient while the other person was up doing something, 2) DW wants more counter space, and 3) need to make up the dinette as a bed in order to have room for 2 to lounge around on an indoor day.

Fortunately the dinette flip-flop is pretty easy IMO.
I can add a flip counter add-on either above my new outlet (sad), or a flip down one to the right of the kitchen counter, folding down over the inner part of the dinette seat-back.
Issue #1 just goes with the territory.

I believe I stumbled upon a way to search this entire thread and only this thread.

Go to this link, then use your computer's find function to find the word you want. (Ctrl-F on a Windows PC).

Burl, does your fresh water tank sensor work? In 2005 you posted that it did not work. Mine does not work. I think I mangled a wire but I wonder what your story is/was.

To check the wires I need to determine how to remove one of those angled, carpeted panels that meet at the floor and wall.

Wow, that's awesome! Plus, I just saved it to my laptop in case it ever gets deleted. It's about 16MB when saved with the embedded pictures.

Thanks a bunch Snowman!

Regarding those angled panels, I think if you search, maybe with a magnet, you'll find recessed screws in the carpet.
