Topic: B+ motorhomes

Posted By: RV er on 10/09/12 08:21pm

Hello all,
I've decided to remove the dinette area in my 2007 Augusta Sport B+ RV since it's not used much and leave the space empty for now. And also to remove the TV from the overhead console and use that space as a charging station for my tablet, laptop and smart phone. I was wondering if there are photos of other member's work that I can see how they remodeled theirs so I can get a few ideas from. I am not the creative type, so any photos and/or ideas will be greatly appreciated. Also thinking of replacing the sofa, just don't know with what yet.

Thank you.

Ralph

Ralph,

Forum member Cheeze1 removed the dinette and converted it to a bed. Here are links to an external photo host.
Box construction
Completed job

I have not seen any recent posts by him. In the earlier days of this thread, he was a poster and talked about these mods. I made some notes about important (to me) topics on certain pages after I read the whole thread, but I don't seem to have his conversion noted. If I find his discussion I will post a link to it.

You can search the forum for author Cheeze1, archives older than one year, key word dinette, and see if you find anything. If you do, you will also be able to send him a private message or email to find out more.

Just yesterday I added some 12v and 120v outlets, partly for laptop use. I will take some photos and post them.

PLEASE, post photos of your project!

Snow and Ralph

Cheeze1's (Chas) Mods are here

Just keep hitting 'Next' at bottom right corner to see all his sofa dinette mods

I show pics of a TV cabinet mod in the '06 or '07 era that looks like this

He also posted some on RV.net after I posted my mods.

Thanks Burl! Your carpenter friend did a nice job there. I did a quick and dirty boxing in and reinforcing of the opening end (half, let's say) of the TV enclosure, so I could do a likewise quick and dirty simple fixed mounting of our 19" Vizio LCD TV. I included a shelf which created a bottom opening that can hold our DVD player and even our DISH network receiver if we decide to bring it.

Just today I finally stuffed the back cavities with insulation (thanks to a post of yours). Since I had not finished the back of the opening and didn't want all that insulation dust exposed, I covered the back of the opening with Reflectix. Prior to doing this, the mounted TV looked perfect because the rear part of the enclosure just disappeared in the dark behind the TV, lol. Now I can see the foil, so a black fabric covering may be in order at some point.

Here is a photo which shows a 12v outlet added so I can run the TV off an 80w plug in inverter. It works just fine, and is enough power for the TV and the DVD player (22 and 6 watts respectively), or the TV and DISH receiver (22+30).

I also added a 12v outlet and 120v outlet under the dinette seat, which makes it into a nice laptop station.

Finally, I added another outlet by the kitchen. It can serve the counter top area but my main motivation was to have a separate circuit for an electric space heater. I had an open spot on the circuit breakers (labeled water heater). I ended up putting both of the new outlets onto that breaker.

Man, I could use a few 120V plugs, esp the one below counter by dinette back.

As much as I LOVE looking at the open-ness of Cheeze's narrower twin sofas, Martha insists the super-king make down bed is best for us - esp. when both dogs sleep on it (usually only one stays on bed).

Oh well, something I don't have to do!

Burl, a handyman/electrician could add that pretty easily. The most skilled part is cutting the opening. After that it is just grunt work and very basic household electrical wiring. Since the power center is right next to it, the wire runs through a hole I drilled in the cabinet shelf, then through the opening on the floor by the wheel well, then over to the power center.

If you have it done, I would recommend the person take a couple of moments to make a backer strip and glue it behind the bottom of the opening. The paneling is so thin otherwise that I think the screws might eventually pull out. I used a razor knife to cut the backer strip from the cutout that came out of the opening. I located the opening so the upper screws would go into the structural wood at the top.

The materials are probably $25-30 at big box prices. The labor for a pro is probably an hour or so.

Re the beds, I recall you are 6'5"? Unless you don't mind your feet hanging way off the end of the twins, I think your wife is right. I'm only 5'9" so the twin will be barely okay for me.

I do not want to press you on this...

I can probably cut the hole for a 120 outlet and route the wire with its inner 3 wires (+, -, gnd) around and down to the power center. I just do not know where to attach them in any openings on the 'bars'.

I do not speak the lingo of the wiring into the 'bars' and their fuse-circuit setup. I have once gone there to tighten all the connectors per RV.net advice, and I probably need to get at this again.

Can you easily show a pic indicating where the three wires need to connect to create this new circuit?

I'd be happy to, Burl. I'll take several photos and write it up. No biggie, I get a ton of good info from RV net and I am glad to be a contributor once in a while.

That will be appreciated.

Burl ..black wire to breaker, white wire to a long silver bar that is isolated from the box, the ground wire which can be green or a bare wire to a silver bar that is fastened directly to the box. I tried to located a picture for you, but all I found were 220v circuit panels for homes showing two 110V feeds, a common wire and ground wire. I did find a video of wiring a box on RV 101 at about the 16 minute point on this episode
