Teacher's Pet wrote: Hey Burl..How did you weather the storm? My cousin's fishing camp down at Leeville sat in the "eye" for 5 hours. No word yet about any damages, since he is snug with his boats up at Zachary. BR also got the eye, or whatever they called it for this wacky and oddly formed tropical storm. The eye was essentially stuck about 70 mi. south of BR for 24 hrs before slowly moving thru BR yesterday. We had relentless wind gusting to maybe 70 occasionally, and a total of maybe 7" rain here. But all the really bad activity was in the eastern "half" of this thing from its eye out 200 mi. east. All this wind (up to 90 mph) and rain (up to 15"+) hit New Orleans and southeast LA plus MS, AL, and even Pensacola. So much Gulf water was pushed ashore that it is still doing serious damage in Slidell and southern MS right now. We lost elec for 24 hrs in town, but 100s of thousands will be w/o air-conditioning in LA, MS, AL for up to a week or so. Yuck 2005 Trail Lite 213 B-Plus w/ 6.0 Chevy

Snowman9000 - My floorplan is a little different than yours, but you are correct someone did not know how to winterize. The first couple years, I poured about 2 gallons of RV antifreeze into the fresh tank. Made it easy to pump the pink stuff through the plumbing. Was not that much of a problem, in the spring, to fill the fresh tank with clean water with about a 1/4 cup of Clorox and drain. I later installed the 3-way valve and siphon tube between the fresh tank and the pump. I still flush the fresh tank with Clorox. There have been postings about installing a drain valve on the water heater using an adapter, but I concluded if I ever had to remove that it could be a real problem. This way, I just easily remove the plastic plug and replace. I have carried a spare since we bought in 2002. burlmart - Hope you escape any further destruction and turmoil with the tropical storm Isacc. 2002 Trail-Lite Model 211-S w/5.7 Chevy (click View Profile) Gene |

Gene, I would prefer not to have the antifreeze in the tank. There were a few gallons of it stuck in the bottom with no way to remove it other than to dilute it and use the tank. I didn't want to put up with the taste/smell lingering on for a while. Sometimes there are posts here about people who just can't get the smell out of their system. The siphon tube eliminates that problem, it's good you did that. EDITED to remove incorrect references to the TL hot water heater line valving. * This post was edited 09/01/12 07:15pm by Snowman9000 * Currently RV-less but not done yet. |

Hi Burl, not all wheelcovers are created equal. I agree with you, that's why I bought these polished stainless steel units. But I ended up having to replace my wheels, and bought polished aluminum wheels so these are looking for a new home....

The Tchefuncte River in the background dumps into North L Pontchartrain and I would guess Isaac left a few ft. of water where the RV sits here.

Ah, looks like you've got the same ones. I forgot you got a new rig. Sure looks good pulling that boat!

Snowman9000 wrote: See How will hauling a scooter affect MPG, & how to rack it.Gene, how do you like the Harbor Freight aluminum cargo carrier? Well, not a fault of the cargo carrier as it was well built, but our unit has a rear exit door. Did not like the idea of having to unload the scooter prior to using the rear door. We really like the rear door feature. Saves some wasted aisle square footage by eliminating the 90 degree turn to exit. It also allows us to haul a 24' extension ladder, sheets of drywall or plywood, storm doors etc. Our trailer follows us most of the places we go with either the scooter or motorcycle inside. So much better than a "toad". If it is raining, cold, or windy it is not fun to sight see anyway. ![]()

Thanks Gene. Yes, that would be a huge pain with a rear door. For the price, I was worried the carrier would be a piece of junk.

A word of caution to the TL owners. I pulled out the water heater today to fix it. There was no putty tape used. Just the bead of caulk around the rim. This is a leak and delamination waiting to happen. They did have the opening coated with black undercoating or something, but that is not a substitute for using putty tape. I am going to pull off some other things to put putty tape behind them in case don't have it. Namely the fuel hatch, electric hatch, and range vent. I was able to find that the fridge hatch mounting used putty tape, because I could stick a finger around from the back side and feel it. I don't know about the furnace or any of the compartment doors. Why they would use it on at least one thing, the fridge, and not the water heater, is beyond me. I'll report on the 3 plastic things after I do them. One thing for certain, we should maintain sound caulking around all the moldings. It might be the only line of defense in some cases. |
