Hi Everyone,
I have just joined this brilliant site but before I did I read all 268 pages as we have a 2001 trail lite over here in northern Ireland. We love it and it has just 19000 miles on it, even though with petrol at 6 pounds per gal!!!!!.We have travelled all over Ireland in it and apart from getting the sofa bed recovered with new material and stiffer foam have had no probs. I believe we have the only one in northern Ireland and before this, last year we went round Europe in a 21 year old Winnebago lesharo which never missed a beat the whole trip, hoping to get back to Europe in the trail lite next year.

Hi, our rig was supplied new originally from England and was converted to 240v so no issues. One small problem we have is our onan 4kw micro quiet genny. It was running like new and has very little hours on it, however recently it stopped and now we just get the clicking from the fuel pump priming but not turning over. When I ran the diagnostic check it comes up with error 32 which is low cranking speed, we have had it checked out with a local electrician and the issue is not power related. When I bypass the starter relay with jump leads it then cranks over okay but no spark and thus no starting. Getting anyone over here to look at it is not easy and wondered if there is something simple that I'm missing. We have dual leisure batts but hope to go to Scotland skiing in winter and would have liked it running before we go. Many thanks in advance of any help. I have searched every 'onan' post that I cam find but no solution yet.

Have you tried running the Vehical and then trying to start generator?
Gen sets should be run at least once a month with some form of load on it. Thats what keeps it in good condition.

MacManWork, it seems that by bypassing the solenoid and having it crank, you are pretty much troubleshooting the problem to the solenoid. Although the solenoid could act similarly if it is not getting enough current to activate properly. Starting your rig first as prior post suggested should provide the proper current. The activation (small wire) terminals on the solenoid could also be not making good contact. I would try cleaning those as well. I don't think any of that is easy to get to in that genset, however.

If you have the genset switch set to "Run" and you can crank it by bypassing the solenoid as you did, it should start and stay running.

If you can crank it by jumping the solenoid. But NO spark,,,check the voltage from the start switch. Sounds like no voltage to ignition circuit?

Do you have enough fuel in the tank? It's probably got a low fuel circuit. Think it needs a 1/4 or better in the tank to run the Genny.

MacmanWork - Welcome to the forum and this thread (topic) that has been around for quite some time. We also love our Trail-Lite and are trying to keep it a little bit of a secret and we don't want to brag and change our luck.

On the generator, I would (as was suggested) start the chassis engine and use the emergency boost switch to start the generator. You might also check the grounding of the generator. When you jump to the generator with cables, chances are you brought over a good ground with a booster cable. Keep us informed on what you have tried and we'll come up with more suggestions.

Welcome

There is a circuit breaker switch inside the Onan - near the oil fill, I think. The genset will start better with the engine running, but no need to toggle the emergency start switch which is only used when the house battery is charges while the engine battery is low.

How did a Trail Lite get to Ireland?
