New Question gang. Last year I had an alarm installed in the 213. Works great, added protection when we leave the pups alone for an hour or so. Problem is when I have it in storage, it wears the chassis battery down and I have to use the coach battery to start the engine. It's happened every time I check on it in the storage lot since I got the alarm. Last time, the engine seemed to 'run weak' and sounded like it wanted to stall if I didn't stay on the gas. Is that because the battery was so run down? Should I install one of those toggle switches onto the battery so it doesn't run down? I know the alarm will be disabled, but it is in the same locked lot it's been in since '05. Thanks!

Cheeze, I doubt that the low battery would cause the engine to run slow because as soon as you start it, the alternator is giving you 14.7V. I do have to say, however, that I experienced the same thing last week with, after a week battery, the need to keep the foot on the gas to keep idle speed up. The next time I started it, later in the day, it was fine. It could be the engine computer picking up an erroneous sensor signal on start due to the low batt, I suppose.

Somewhat unrelated, I keep my engine battery charged using a charge jumper cable (cigarette lighter plugs on both ends) connected between the TV/Accy plug in the overhead and one of the dash accy plugs. Shore power cable attached to house and powered. Works great.

Q: has anyone had their coach battery relay stick ON? I can't seem to get the ON/Store light to go out. (Above mentioned cable disconnected.)

I have no source of shore power, so that would be out for me.

cheeze1 - Is your unit stored outdoors in view of the sun? Several years ago, you could buy a rather small (8" x 12") solar cell battery charger. I believe they were rated at about 5 watts. They were equipped with suction cups and a cigarette lighter male plug. They were shipped with all the foreign cars (primarily VW) that were shipped here by boat. Merely stuck on the windhield from the inside and rested on the dash. Kept the battery topped off. The dealer would just pitch them. Then someone learned there was a market for them. Saw them on eBay going for $15-20. This one is not quite the same, but similar idea eBay Item 390173577334.

Yes Gene, it is, and that's a great idea. However what I've decided to do now is to install a battery cutoff switch. I looked online and there are a couple of styles, 1 with a round knob, (including one where you can take the knob off and it can't be reconnected without it) and the knife switch kind. I forget which terminals are on my battery, so I guess I will have to look at it first. Luckily the dealer's parts shop is around the corner. Dunno how long to run the engine to get it charged up again, tho' I guess I should take it for an hour ride. Since it's in a locked lot, I should not need to worry about the alarm being active at that location. I don't see anyway to avoid a battery drain from the alarm.[emoticon]

Labtek; I have already driven 1500 miles in two weeks!. I will average about 500 a week for the next couple of months, then about 1200 a month. I do not expect mileage to increase much, but I am having so much fun with that engine that I really don't care (a different tone will prevail when gas returns to $2 a gallon!). I had driven about four different brands from a couple of Rialta's, and three van conversion brands, one with fancy air bags, that could be adjusted from the cab and all at least 20K more new, and none with the same room. They all were rather vague on the highway. My Trail Lite is much more stable (due to the duals probably). I plan to use the slide a lot, and that may be achilles' heel in the construction. I suspect that the mechanism was not designed for repeated use, and may begin to separate over time. Added screws will help there. I plan to put a swivel under the passenger's seat at some time in the future. I also plan to get some pads for the couch and dinette (for better sleeping). Both are only about 40" wide, and though the unit is rated to sleep 4, I suspect that they grow pretty small people at the factory!
Since I do not plan to sleep in the unit much, I am not much concerned with that. In fact, I have been thinking about getting a sizeable trailer in the future to pull behind the B+ when I am retired and want to stay in one place for longer periods than a couple of days. Sorry for the long reply.... I have obviously been obsessing a lot over this vehicle over the past few months!

I'm still waiting for that $2 gas to return!

This is quite a thread, hadn't been into it before.

Thx cheeze1; couldn't resist dragging the post about $2 gas up from 2002.

I could get religious about some of that.[emoticon]

I changed the Emer Start solenoid with no apparent effect on how the chassis and house batteries operate. As far as I can tell, if the engine is on, the USE/STORE disconnect red lite will be on regardless whether the toggle is set to STORE. Likewise when its plugged into shore power.

The only time the house batt disconnect red light is off is when nothing is charging anything in the rig. In this case, setting USE/Store to STORE will cause the red light to go out.

I've given up understanding what is supposed to be happening with all the possible elec redundancies.

Thanks Burlmart. I'll try again with everything disconnected. Possible the shore power was connected when I tried.
