I have a few questions/remarks here so everyone pay attention!

Burl, I pay $1100/year to be outside, the only protection is a locked fence and the rv's parked next to me. I would love to be under a roof of any kind.

I check the roof regularly and it seems to weather the conditions well. I occasionally find/repair a little shrinkage or parting of 'seams' where there is caulk. The plastic covers are fine. The sun has caused the front cap to get dull, which I'm going to try and polish out as soon as I can figure out a way to access the whole thing without a mountain climbing harness. (Maybe a scaffold made of 2 folding ladders?)

We have some nice weather coming real soon, and I'm going to install my new foglights. I am moving the old cheapo's to the rear to act as work lights/auxiliary backups. They are not real bright, so I thought installing them on the rear 'bumper' would be probably the best location. I would appreciate any other ideas.

Where would the brethren suggest I look for a "mount in the wall" battery guage like I just saw in Motorhome, and a digital clock? Radio Shack maybe?
Thanks all!

Chas,Gary and Jim ( In OHIO ) DigitalMeter.com is where I purchased my Meter,on the Web site are the Tecnical Specifications for the install, very easy to follow directions. Not sure how much I paid for mine, but I 1st purchased the " LCD " model and could not read the numbers during the day time ,so I purchased the " LED " a few months later and works great and I can see it even when it's sunny out. It's the one that I show in my picture. Buy the 4 digit model not the 3 digit one.
Another great item I installed on the Trail-lite was a front mounted ( 5,000 lb ) electric scissor jack. My Trail-lite always rides high in the back , I would assume they all do which allows for extra weight when loaded. I would always look for a place to park that was on an up-hill slop to be level. You can see in one of the pictures I just sent where I have my jack down preparing for a trip ( running the fridge ) I can actually lift the whole front end of my RV off of the ground with 6 inched of air under both the front tires and with no strain on the jack at all. If any body wants to look up my past postings I think I pretty much have everything in pictures of everything I have done to my rig . All of the other items are nice to do things, but the Volt meter and the electric jack are two that I used most and would highly recommend , but unfortunatley both of these upgrades come at a cost.
Chas and Gene, a few years ago I removed all of my goopy sealant on my roof seams and used eternabond tape on all of them and I now have a worry free seal for life on all of my seams, I can't say enough about this stuff. My roof material is not rubber , it seems to be a thick textured vinal membrane with a felt backing. I was just looking at the roof the other day and it does not seem to show any indication of weather wear and it has never been under cover. This material does not cause the black streaking that some people are always complaining about.
Chas,my front overhang is also dull , I won't even go into the story about how I almost broke my neck trying to polish it with an electrical buffer , but I stopped after realizing the it could cause a real hardship in my retirement getting crippled at this age, so its dull for life or unless I can talk someone else to do it.( I was actually sitting on the edge of my garage roof and trying to get my wife to drive it close enough for me to buff it out ) LOL she finally coached me down!!!

Thanks, I have that site up now. I agree about the LED.

I remember going thru that with you. Sure makes leveling easier, but what about side to side, or facing uphill? How much do they cost?

I followed your advice and any leaks I suspected that may have been coming from roof seams vanished. It's just not the prettiest stuff around. I still have some.

So would you remain stationary and she would move the coach back and forth? [emoticon]
I have realized that area is very inaccessible. I had a dickens of a time removing the curled up Trail-Lite logo, mainly on a ladder and reaching way over, or standing on the bumper. I have 2 6 foot ladders, and I just need a long enough 2xsomething to sit on.
I also plan to replace the mounting screws for the clearance lights with stainless, since the chrome ones are rusting.

Hello Chas, my jack was around $800.00. Whereever I RV I'm pretty flexable on the locations,if its facing uphill I turn the coach around, I have never had any issues with side to side. I attend lots car shows and its normally in a field that I have to park, so I just find a good side to side level spot and raise the front if need be.
Remember my glass shower stall install? Here is the hatch I installed to access my rear batteries

I do remember the glass shower install. I went for the accordion pleat one since our bath is smaller than yours and we need the elbow room. However,I'm still looking for 'knee room' for sitting down bathroom duties.

I like that hatch, did you fabricate it from the coach or use something new? I hate mine.

B-Plus, where all did you put eternabond? And how do you get the gray goop off w/o tearing the roof membrane.

I wonder what is the official name for our roof material - it has implications for what caulks and cleaners can harm it.

The only reference I could ever find was back in 2003, when "CAMPERS FACTORY OUTLET" was selling Trail-Lites at discounted prices. Here is what they advertised:
  • Aluminum Framed Laminated Construction (Floors, Roof & Sidewalls)
  • Polystyrene Block Foam Insulation (R-5)
  • Rubber Roof
  • 3/16" Steel Dipped, Rubber Mounted Undercarriage
  • Curved Sidewalls & Crowned Roof
  • Fiberglass Front Cap & Wings
  • Fiberglass Skin

I believe the roof is rubber too, Burl.
I just went over the other stuff. My roof was only a year or so old at the time. Go to www.eternabond.com for that stuff.[emoticon]

Burl,my roof is what they call TPO (Thermoplastic polyolefin) and has a felt backing, I know it's not rubber. All you do is use a heat gun ( gently ) until the goop is soft and remove the bulk of it with a plastic scraper. No need to get it all off because the eternabond will stick well to it. The eternabond sticks so well that once you touch it to the surface its to late to reposition it ,so make sure its on the 1st time. I like the product so much I bought a spare
50'x 6" roll and have it stored in a new empty sealed paint can for my next RV.
For anybody looking at the scissor jack on the front of my RV and thinking that it sticks down to much,I have it lowered a little to take the picture,it normally tucks up level with the bottom of the bumper and can not be seen.
Chas,I purchased the hatch on ebay, I beleive it's for a boat or something , but it's fiberglass with alum trim and the same color as the coach and it works great.

Dario, what could you have possibly put in the Ebay search box to find that door??
