My rescue dog "Biscuit". We got her from the local county shelter in Sept 2010 when I came home from neck surgery. Figured it was a good time to get a puppy since I would be home for 6 weeks and could work on potty training. We were told and believed she was a lab mix. The second week of March we were breaking our new camper in at the local park and a gentlemen driving by stopped me and remarked what a good looking "Kemmer Cur" she was. I had heard the term "Cur" when referring to a dog before but only knew it as a term to mean mutt or mixed bread.

I responded with "Thanks you, yes she's a great dog. We got her at the local shelter and she's a lab mix."

He then said "No, you don't understand. I breed and raised Kemmer Mountain Cur's for the past 25 years and she's a picture of the breeding stock that started that bloodline. You need to go home and do an internet search and you will see."

Between what I found online and the rest of my conversation with him, it all makes sense now. The entire litter was at the shelter and there were 6 of them. 1 had a full length tail, 3 had tails her length and 2 had little stub tails much like you see on boxers. He explained to me that that is common in this breed and the litters almost always have mixed tail lengths.

These dogs were raised as squirel and coon dogs and know for their courage and family orientation. This discribes my dog very well. She is the smartest and best behaved dog I've had in my life, was easily trained and behaves flawlessly. She can break for a squirel or rabbit in the back yard when I let her out and if I call her back, she'll immediately return to me. I've never had a dog that would stop a prey chase period much less immediately. She's like that with anything I direct her to do. Go to her bed to lay down is one word "Bed". Sit, stay, come, Mom all are one word commands that are followed w/o hesitation.

My "lab mix" is a joy to spend time with and friendly to everyone and all animals. We love her as a family member that she is.
