Oh... and on the drag link... the part I had located is listed as being for the MB400 series... which I may incorrectly be thinking is the same chassis... with possibly a full body? or something similar.

The F40/MB400 (two different designations for the same incomplete/cut-away chassis) had at least two options for front axle. One was the same as the B100/200/300 front axle. (Which I believe is a 3000# axle.) The other option was a heavier duty 4000# front axle. Moog site says different part number for drag link on 4000# axle option.

(I don't see any reason for offering a 5000# front axle on a MB400 but I wouldn't be surprised to find one on a specially built truck.)

Ive been pretty busy lately to catch up but she is alive and kicking quite well replaced cap and rotor. Rotor was "eaten away on the forward side and lots of corrosion built up on cap so bye bye. Replaced the ignition coils with a newer one. Took her out camping after replacing tar in tranny and filter( trust me 40 years of neglect) trans shifts like new. But as she sits shes solid ill have to post some pictures of the old girl. Believe it or not i bought a haynes manual for the cab half of it at the local parts store.

Well, dang... I posted the Vin and some notes... Don't see it. Here it is again.

The fourth digit (C) indicates a chassis with 10,001 lbs to 14,000 lbs Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

Can you find a part number on the current drag link? (A lot of times the only way to find the right part is use the old p/n in a parts interchange ... that's how I found the brake booster for my RM350.)

Griff...

No idea where to find the old part number. What part number do you have for the 4000# front axle? I would not be surprised if that was it. The current drag link seems a bit thicker, or more reinforced then the pics for the DS1000 I am seeing. I have a pic, but have not had great success in adding pics here since my old pic host went away.

Correct Moog p/n is DS930 -- if you have the 4000/4500# axle. Length is 24.80 inches.

Otherwise, DS1000 is correct -- if you have the lighter duty axle. (Having trouble finding DS1000 specifications.)

Wouldn't they be the same length? Looking it up online, sites seem to think the DS930 is around 32 inches.

I wonder what other 'clues' there might be to look for... Are you looking at a Spicer catalogue? The only part I see listed there is the DS930.

Found it ... length on DS1000 is 29.10 inches. Bolts/nuts are 5/8" -- probably NF thread. (Now, can't find DS930 bolts/nuts specification.)

So measure the drag link you have, pin/ball to pin/ball.

I"ll see if my friend can measure. I'm currently 30+ minutes from it. Probably won't have an answer for a couple days. I'm still going to go with the 4000# version... just 'cause karma doesn't like my pocket book lol.

No, I went snooping the Federal-Mogul/Moog websites.

Wouldn't trust Spicer (in this area) because some minimum wage flunky is just regurgitating Moog info, probably without a clue regarding what they're entering ... and probably wouldn't recognize a drag link if someone hit them over the head with one.

My local CarQuest lets me order parts just so I can see them ... and compare them. (Plus, the current employees are scared of me, 'cause of the stories they've heard regarding my successes finding parts for weird/ancient vehicles ... and customers keep demanding they hire me back.)

The specifications for DS1000 and DS930 are straight from Moog. With almost 5" difference, it shouldn't be hard to get the right one.
