Tried rebuilding the carb this weekend... learned a few things. Two problems. First, the glue for the wells had Gond to pot, and were leaking. Fixed that... second problem... the plastic bowl is warped. ****... On to the next item... Need to find a replacement Drag Link for an "F40"... I've found a Moog-DS1000. Not completely sure if that's what I need, but someone here probably would. ![]() |

Warped plastic carburetor bowls are an indication of excessive heat under the doghouse. I've mentioned before, small marine bilge blowers can reduce the problem. Mount one or two away from the engine and use dryer vent hose to blow cooler fresh air up into the doghouse. This will also help engine efficiency by offering denser cool air for the carburetor. (You can also use one or two bilge blowers to suck hot air out of the doghouse ... but blowing cool air in there is more effective.) IIRC, someone offered metal replacement bowls for some carburetors, decades ago. Might be worth looking for ... they were made for hot-rodders, IIRC. Will use my resources to look for drag link. 1979 Dodge F40 chassis ... may need more info. Chassis VIN would be most helpful. Will also crosscheck 1977 & 1978, in case of split year motorhome. 1970 Explorer Class A on a 1969 Dodge M300 chassis with 318 cu. in. (split year) 1972 Executive Class A on a Dodge M375 chassis with 413 cu. in. 1973 Explorer Class A on a Dodge RM350 (R4) chassis with 318 engine & tranny from 1970 Explorer Class A ![]() |

BTW ... I may be able to find an OEM carb bowl ... need exact carb make & model ... carb tag number would be preferable. (A friend who rebuilds carbs has old printed catalogs listing every part for every version of every older carburetors.)

Drag link for '78 and '79 CB300 is different. So, get the chassis VIN to verify chassis year. Will keep looking to see if F40 is different from CB300 chassis. Addendum - F40 is an incomplete MB400 chassis ... need to look for medium duty truck parts. NAPA and CarQuest has some stores/departments specializing in medium and heavy duty truck parts. Likewise, many towns have independent stores just for medium and heavy duty trucks. Addendum #2 - MB400 with 4000 pound front axle uses a different part number. (Not DS1000!!) * This post was last edited 09/04/17 06:45pm by Griff in Fairbanks * |

How warped? If it's not real bad, sandpaper makes it flat again. Good post with pics on rebuilding here: http://www.offroadexchange.com/tquad.htm '73 Concord 20' Class A w/Dodge 440 - see profile for photo |

Well, dang... I posted the Vin and some notes... Don't see it. Here it is again. F44CA9Vxxxxxx I was thinking of sandpaper, didn't know if that would throw something else off with the carb. Prolly several 32nds on each side... high in the center. May just give is a shot anyway. It's already unusable... so... what's there to loose right? I think they may be available via company called Tomco. At least they have a listing for them. http://www.tomco-inc.com/Catalog/thermalquad.pdf The Carb is a Carter ThermoQuad, 9211s. Not sure what the 's' is as I haven't seen it referenced when looking for parts... but its included in the stamp... so. |

Oh... and on the drag link... the part I had located is listed as being for the MB400 series... which I may incorrectly be thinking is the same chassis... with possibly a full body? or something similar.

Several 32nds a side? Go for it. I dunno, but mine is a 6518s. Maybe that means it's a truck carb? |

I would throw that carburetor in the trash and replace it with a new Edelbrock I did this years ago and never regretted it for a minute
