If your distributor is at the rear of the engine, it's not a 440. It's either a 360 or 318; without access to my computer I can't tell you which right now. This is my 440 the day we got it: ![]() '73 Concord 20' Class A w/Dodge 440 - see profile for photo |

The F identifies it as an "unfinished cab & chassis. Not sure on the 44 (that would be the model and it looks like it wasn't a standard truck or van chassis), but the C is for 10,001 to 14,000 GVWR, the T is for a 360/4bbl engine, and the 9 is for 1979 model year. 1975 American Clipper RV with Dodge 360 (photo in profile) 1998 American Clipper Fold n Roll Folding Trailer Both born in Morgan Hill, CA to Irv Perch (Daddy of the Aristocrat trailers) |

Maya.215 wrote: ![]() I've tried to use my chassis vin and absolutely nobody could tell me what yr model and make I had they all said that the vins did not actually apply to vehicular identification until the 80s I also checked my vin at 4 different vin decoders on line and all could not tell me a thing about my 1979 dodge class c motor home they all said vin not found I had to figure by going to different sites and asking questions eventually I came to find out I had the dodge small block v8 5.9l engine and the parts or I should say most of the parts come from the dodge b300 1ton van, so far all the parts I've gotten have been very successful Look on the outside of frame, on the right (passenger) side, between the wheel and frame. There should be a number stamped into the frame. (May be covered with grease, dirt, and paint so may be hard to see.) If the distributor is in the rear, towards the transmission, it's a 318, 340, or 360 engine. (In older Dodge vehicles, it could also be a 273 cu. in., that's the little known 4th -- and original -- Mopar small block displacement.) 1970 Explorer Class A on a 1969 Dodge M300 chassis with 318 cu. in. (split year) 1972 Executive Class A on a Dodge M375 chassis with 413 cu. in. 1973 Explorer Class A on a Dodge RM350 (R4) chassis with 318 engine & tranny from 1970 Explorer Class A ![]() |

Wow your the first to actually give me that much info great thanks I've been told by every Machanic auto parts store that I have been to and they all said that was a odd vin, so then I've been getting all the right parts. I'm new to rvs what exactly do they mean by unfinished lmbo that don't sound good lol

Unfinished is just a term for vehicles sold as a "cab & chassis" rather than a finished "van" or "truck". They started using that at some point after 1975 for the most part. Again Class A motorhomes are different as they weren't built on van/truck chassis. |

Ok so I definitely don't have the 440 my engine does not look like that thanks for the pic Leeann I was getting computer diograms before that's how I figured I didn't have the 440 but that pic definitely confirms that wish I could have gotten that when I first started working on this rv

I'm new to rvs what exactly do they mean by unfinished lmbo that don't sound good lol "Unfinished" isn't a commonly used term ... incomplete or cut-away refers to a chassis sold by Dodge without a body (or most of the body) to manufacturers who then used it as the basis for delivery trucks, motorhomes, and so forth. What the original owner bought was a complete motorhome, built by Dodge and the motorhome manufacturer. When I worked at a parts counter, whenever one of the other counter people couldn't "find" a VIN, they'd point the customer to me, especially if the customer mentioned "motorhome." I had one regular customer who'd drive 120 miles one way just to talk with me. (I worked Friday through Sunday and the second time he showed up was on a Thursday ... the boss offered to telephone me or call me in but the customer decided to camp out until Friday.) |
