Topic: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

If the various stores were trying to sell you a 104" parking brake front cable, they were trying to give you the cable for pickups, not vans, Kary Vans, and Class C motorhomes.

Sadly, there ain't doodley out here except for a convenience store and an 'old-style General Store', but luckily Reno is 'only' 50 miles away, and they've got an Advance Auto on S. Rock Blvd. I'll give them a call tomorrow. I hadn't considered that possibility, but at this point I'd have to say that anything's possible. I've been finding some pretty imaginative installation of radios and speakers (really, WHY do you need two radios and half a dozen speakers in a 19' RV again?!?!?!), and it's no wonder I can't keep a charge on the battery on a bet. Funny part is, I didn't have that problem until AFTER I started pulling all the excess electronics out. But that's a whole nuther ball of wax, and I've got your wonderful posts on the electrical system to refer to!

We're thirty miles from any auto parts store. Actually, I'm the best source for auto parts for anyone living within five miles of me. (On my to-do list is to start a Pleasant Valley auto parts store, using all the repair shop kits I bought when I worked at CarQuest.)

When I was semi-restoring a 1980 Ford Bronco, I discovered a previous owner had tried to install a Chevy cruise control in it ... and just left everything as is when he gave up.

The general manager for the Fairbanks CarQuest offered to order the cable for you and have it sent to the Reno store.

I'm willing to give that a shot! I may not be able to get into town until Wed though (when we go to the A&W, have dinner, and see all the classic cars come in to show off!).

Chevy cruise control in a Ford Bronco?? To quote Agent Kay from 'Men In Black'..... "Does anything about that seem unusual to you?"

Greetings all, again...

Looking for proper part numbers for a speedo cable. I can't seem to find the cable I need with the correct lentgh... and ends... If I have the right transmission side, the basket is wrong, or... if it has the correct basket, the Transmission side is wrong... Shouldn't be that difficult should it?

On a side note. Put a new TV/DVD combo in the RV this weekend. A NAXA 22" model. Really like everything about it, except the speakers really are bad. Really quiet. But the good part is... it comes with a 12v adapter and works great off DC. Which is awesome for dry camping. Thought I would share.

Everybody -

Advance Auto has purchased CarQuest and they're in the process of converting CarQuest stores and computer systems to Advance Auto.

I'm hoping the purchase/conversion won't create issues with my CarQuest commercial account ... it's my primary means of finding part numbers for people on this thread.

BTW - I'm communicating directly with eyeteeth via PM on his speedo cable. If we come up with anything of general interest, I'll post it on the thread.

eyeteeth -

Try CarQuest/Advance Auto part number Y-867. It's made by ATP, is 140" long, and has a A727 connector. Other end look like the right connector for the speedometer instrument.

There may be similar cables at other lengths if this is too long.

I'd have them order one up so you can physically look at it.

For everyone with broken speedometer cables -

ATP is my goto brand for automatic transmission parts and information.

I just found out they offer two kits for replacing the core in speedometer cables -- YC-100 and YC-101.

Dorman and Pioneer make similar kits ... I'd trust Pioneer almost as much as ATP while I'm not sure about Dorman's kit. (It may work just fine but some Dorman parts tend to be less expensive than comparable parts and therefore tend to be lower quality.)

I have added the ATP kits to my to-buy list for my shop ... just in case I run into the need to fix a speedometer cable.

Interesting, and possibly worth a shot. What is the difference between them? Funny is seems auto stores don't carry them. I could could only find online stores...

Posted By: Griff in Fairbanks on 08/16/16 01:06pm

The YC-100 is 83" and YC-101 is 120"

I didn't bother looking at the Pioneer and Dorman kits due to my prejudice towards ATP. (I was going to look at the Pioneer kit but the uneducated, inexperienced drop-outs my ISP employs as network administrators kept killing the 'net while I was trying.)

The local CarQuest/Advance Auto has the Pioneer kit in stock at the store ... because Pioneer is one of the lines they carry.
