That was me. Went to buy frt shocks for the Travco, looked at Bilstiens and the price nearly scared me to death. So, I got my buddy Bob (parts discounts) to find me a set. At his price. First, find a place with a big enough lift, so Bob went to Monroe Muffler. And he calls from me from Monroe Muffler & Shock to say the manager there (his parts buddy) has a P-30-Chassis-Something and that Monroe does, in fact, manufacture shock absorbers for Bilstien. Then I got new Monroes cheaper at NAPA with Bob's price. chinook440 wrote:

chinook440 wrote: I love the interior layout of your Rig Dodgelodge ! You can have 2 poker games going on in there at the same time . ![]() If your engine is cranking over slowly and the battery is Good , i would first check to see if it has the original battery cables on it. They were usually undersized when new , then add 30+ years of corrosion and they don,t work to well. Also A later Model Mini Starter from a 1991 -2000 Ram pick up or van will bolt right in with minor mods to the power cables and will spin that old 440 over much faster and draw less current than the original type starter and they weigh a whole lot less as well. A Good electric fuel pump will do away with any heat soak /vapor lock issues on the fuel system. The original engine mounted mechanical pump and fuel line routing puts way to much heat into the fuel and the gas these days boils and evaporates alot easier then the fuel availible when these old rigs were built. Thanks Chinook440! I will probably replace the chassis battery just for GP, I can get one at Costco for under $75 for a 1000cca , so I'll try that first and go from there. I'll check out the cables next and see if that makes improvements. The back dinette is going to become the "Lodge Lounge" with a flat screen,DVD player, and a comfortable seating area. 1978 Dodge Shasta M-25RD "The Dodge Lodge" 440 4BBL 727 Loadflyte 49800 miles work in progress.... |

Here's a place for some supplies as well. Brass zippers by the roll? 100' enough? https://www.rowleycompany.com/10_search.asp?goto=productsearch.asp I've purchased things like hook and loop by the roll from them. 25 yards lasts a while. Sure is nice to have a supply. And their prices are appropriate as well. Pins, thread, drapery supplies. If you are a 'cloth butcher' this place will make you happy. Upholstery stuff too. Neither my wife nor I sew but there's an upholstery shop down the street from our house that's owned by people we know and if we can supply the materials, I'm sure that will keep the cost down. |

Welcome, vaguirrebica and bclaude! These old Dodges have issues with sending units. Fortunately, a lot of boat gauges are the same resistance as the Dodge ones, so generic sending units from your local boat supply place work just fine (we did this on one of our tanks). |

My brother owns a 1969 Dodge Tradesman A100, Gypsy, with a fiberglass top, and the usual 3/4 bed, stove, small fridge, etc. it has been through at least two complete rebuilds. 318 CID, Auto trans. The rig is in need of some minor parts, which are hard to find of course. the hardest thing to find is anyone who also works on these and has some knowledge of older auto electric, and engines. My brother Joe is very handy, but is up against a couple of things that are stumping him. One question in particular, (I don't do this kind of work, so don't ask me what this means) AFter rebuilding the trans, and putting it back in, Joe noticed that the Balance Resistor (a ceramic device) was glowing red hot. The insulation was completely crisped, so he changed it for another one. We have changed it several times, and each does the same thing. Not quite catching fire, not quite buring out, just red hot. The engine runs fine, no skips or misses, timed perfectly. The trans shifts smoothly (although the shop left it 3 quarts low). All the lights work correctly. No smell of hot wiring. The engine starts with no hesitation or dragging. Anyone do their own work on these older rigs? hankpac at yahoo dot com Hank www.tigerforcerecon.com |
