I don't suppose you could post some pics of the Gear Vendors OD as it's installed on your rig, could ya? Been thinking along the same lines myself ('76 Dodge 440/727/etc). It's either that or a beefed up A518/46RH and associated modifications... JDG |

Greetings, everyone. I have joined after lurking for about 2 months. Lots of good info here. I purchased a 1975 Mini-Midas last November from a storage facility where the old Dodge had been abandon for 17 years. I paid a whopping 500 bucks for it, and after 4 hours of work, drove it home. It has the typical old abandon RV woes, such as leaky roof, baked plastics, questionable wiring done by an arsonist, and crumbling seat and bed foam. The 360's #8 cylinder is weak (88lbs of compression, all others 135-138) but the 727 looks as if it had just been overhauled prior to storage . I've managed to repair most of the big stuff, leaving the detail work for later. A 440 swap is in the plans, as soon as I can scare up a doner rig. So far, I've only managed to find one doner 440 RV, and it appears that it had been converted to a mobile meth lab. I've never stripped a vehicle while wearing a respirator, but I guess there is a first time for everything..... ![]() Anyhoo, thanks for all the good info. I'll keep you posted. BTW, has anyone here know about a successful Cummins Turbo Diesel swap into one of these Class C's? Any info would be appreciated! Montesa Hauler!! "> |

Internally, the big-block and small-block A727 transmissions are the same. However, the case is different, with a different bolt pattern. Personally, I'd stay with the 360 unless you're planning on towing a large (5,000+) trailer. A simple oil test should tell you if the weak cylinder is due to rings or valves. A swap to a diesel is possible ... the question is how much work will be required. (Motor mounts? Driveshaft? Radiator?) 1970 Explorer Class A on a 1969 Dodge M300 chassis with 318 cu. in.
