We only fixed ours in situ, Trish - we didn't remove and reinstall it. I think someone else had to replace theirs....eyeteeth, maybe?

follow up on the tank situation... I am going to try and repair one more time. It has been repaired before but not done real well, so before I try and remove the tank which looks to be a real bear of a problem, I will clean it up and try and do a better repair job. In the mean time I need to hit the salvage yard to try and find some better mirrors and seat base's for the caravan seats I have. They require a larger base than the old seats. Just one thing after another... * This post was edited 08/19/09 11:05am by ALnCORY * I don't think anyones dying statement ever contained the words "I wish I had spent more time in the office", so lets go somewhere! |

ALnCory, I replaced the seats in my "77" Brougham. Mine had metal bases, so I just used some parts from my old seats and some from the new ones and welded things up. And if your tank setup is the same as mine, there is a flange on the top side ( under the toilet ) that was a slip in fit to the tank. You just have to un-screw the flange from the floor and pull up (with a twisting motion) to get it free, then take the straps off of the tank to drop it. Wasn't to hard and would make it much easier to work on the tank on the ground. If your not too far from me, I'll come over and give you a hand...Jerry

Thanks Jerry, I went to the salvage yard yesterday and found some seat bases out of a dodge van that I think will work. The ones in my motorhome were too narrow. These are wide enough and a little shorter which is good because the new seats sit higher somehow... on the tank, I am going to try and repair it. I cleaned all the old repair off and it doesn't look as bad as I feared. Not sure if I should use a marine epoxy or a the marine sealant. It is cracked right at the bottom of the seam between tank and outflow flange... Thanks for the offer of help, if I end up dropping the tank I may take you up on it... I believe Payette is about and hour from Kuna... we will need to meet up at a campground one of these weekends and compare note.. thanks again, Al |

I need opinions on oil changes for our old Dodges. Should we go by the every 3000 miles then change it or should you go by so many months. It will take me maybe 3 years to put 3000 miles on mine. (The places I go are short trips) Thanks,

Definitely go by time - acids will form in your oil when it is left sitting and that's not good...

Hi all, I'm another noob here. I have an 1979 Dodge MB400 based motorhome - vin starts F40. The max weight is 10600 lbs. Here's the question: does any one have any info on what the maximum train weight is? It's got the 440 engine. I've had this RV for over 5 years and put 10,000 miles on it. Last year we discovered she had terminal wood rot. I was really bummed as I had done a ton of work to the engine, brakes, suspension and electrics. I was going to part her out but my family wouldn't let me as they had had so much fun in her. It isn't worth paying anyone else to do the work so I carefully stripped it all the way back down to the chassis and am now about 75% through a complete rebuild, new floor, framing, roof pretty much everything. I kept all the original siding, windows, interior cupboard frames, doors and stuff because I kinda liked the way it looked and wanted to keep the original character. I hope she will be finished this year.. * This post was last edited 08/25/09 02:16pm by UKdodge * |
