Heya Robbins... I love that casino near your town! Anyway.. In upgrading the plumbing on one of my rigs (89 Sprinter), I used sikaflex marine sealant on all tank-to-fittings. No leaks with three years use. Sikaflex is a flexible, urethane based (moisture kicks it)sealant that does not harden. The putty Billy Mays pitches is an inflexible epoxy with good adhesive capability but limited - due to its nature, as a sealant. Also, be aware that your tank(s) and fittings may be of differing types of "plastic." If both are ABS, then perhaps an ABS glue would be appropriate. In my case the tank was polyethylene and the fittings were ABS. As for the low pressure issue, perhaps the drain valves are partially open. Those valves are likely to be of the "gate" variety and without physically checking them, you cannot determine whether they are fully closed or partially open. I switched to Ball type valves. I can ID their status by simply looking at the position of the handle. If you have an accumulator tank inline, you might want to check the air pressure. Also check the voltage at the pump vs voltage at the auxiliary (house) battery. Dirty or corroded terminals/wiring can cause excess resistance and a subsequent voltage drop, resulting in a weak stream. * This post was edited 12/19/09 04:18pm by usmcdad03 * ![]() |

Hey folks!! It's been a few daze since I have been out here viewing the thread, there's a bunch of new folks here too- welcome to this odd little thread!! It all started with a "message in a bottle" question that I asked nearly 360 pages ago, and it continues!! Thank all of you for perpetuating the goodwill and camraderie, the sharing of wisdom, experiences, humor and pictures of our unique means of seeing America at asphalt level- our rigs!! I have to turn a page in my history now. My rig- the Kobayashi Maru- is no longer. While out of town, a fast-spreading grass fire consumed an outbuilding and the Koby where she sat. I came back to find a badly burned shell. Because I was still in the process of replacing rotted sections in the walls and roof, most of the stuff that goes in the Koby was spared, but what was stored in the outbuilding was lost. I had no insurance coverage on either the Koby or the building. I'm looking for a class A now. 413's welcome. Year? I don't know... Make? Open to debate. Size? 28' or bigger. Would like to find as large as I can. Or maybe a Travco? Those are classy rigs!! If anyone has suggestions I'm open too. Hopefully soon, the Kobayashi Maru II will be, and will set sail for the Promised Land... Thank you all... for the sharing, the friendship, and best of all... the memories!! your resident lunatic... Oh, no....sorry to hear that, Mark ![]() Besides Travcos, Champion/Titan/Concord rigs came with 413s, as well as The Executive. A few more that I can't remember right now, too... '73 Concord 20' Class A w/Dodge 440 - see profile for photo |

Mark: I don't think there is a better blog or group of people on the net than these pages. The information and input here has been invaluable to me. I may not post often but I read em all and truly appreciate everyone here. Thanks for putting up the "front page" and getting it rolling for us all. Doug |

Mark.... I am so sorry. Losing the Kobyiashu is awful. However, methinks you ought to opt for a Travco. I would, huh? ;0) There are a few nice ones on Craigslist and travco-dot-org, look around. And buy one with lotsa spare parts, will ya. I might need them..... |

Thanks Leeann and Doug! Hello USMCdad!! I'm watching here locally, if I don't find something that grabs me I'll widen out the search. Who knows what I'll find? I think the 413 was in use up to the early '80's so there's "always possibilities". There is a rationale behind my search for a rig with the 413. Even if it's in bad shape. The Cummins 6BT/518 trans combo that was used in Dodge 3/4 and 1 ton trucks is almost a dead-on swap for the venerable 413/747 combo. I'm still thinking diesel, but keeping it Dodge. The Cummins and 518 are waiting in a corner of my shop. I think there's even a Travco guy who did the same swap... Can you imagine a diesel Rectrans rig? I'd have to name it the Enterprise, as "space-shippy" as one looks... Great to hear from y'all!! Mark |

There is - the video's on YouTube. It's pretty cool, actually. Travcos show up on Craigslist and eBay all the time. I'm pretty sure a 6BT/518 swaps out almost directly for a 440/727, too, just like the 413/727. So don't rule out a 440 rig. |

Great to hear from you too!! There is a YouTube video of that diesel Travco- from what I heard he's supposed to be an "outcast" of the Travco folk- whatta shame! I can admire the point of holding to a standard, but if it's a Dodge chassis, and the components hold true to Dodge standards, and it "theoretically" might have been produced, had Travco used a chassis from Dodge, with a Cummins 6BT... If I run across one, and I even have one spare part, I'd be happy to share with you- whatever it be. And you can hold me to that. If you do happen to hear of a Travco in need of rescue or purchase, let me know. I really would like one. No kidding. I think that would be just too... All silliness aside... I'm glad to hear from you. You and Leeann keep this rowdy bunch here in check- even me... y'all are kinda like the Cub Scout den mothers for all of us here... your l'il fat buddy... Mark |
