As I posted earlier, my Dodge Motor Home Chassis parts book lists BL-9Y as the correct plug for 69-75 440-3 engines. I did find this elsewhere on the 'net: Quote: ![]() I have a 1977 Dodge Journey motorhome with a 440-3 engine. My owner's manual lists the RBL9Y as the proper plug for this engine. Unfortunately, many auto places no longer carry this plug. Many do not even have a listing in their books. The champion RV12YC is an equivalent plug that can be used. I've used it in my motorhome for the last 15 years. I'm very happy with the performance and upon replacement I notice the colour of the plug is within the proper specifications. second post: I found a booklet with these specifications for the 1977 440-3 motor... Spark Plug Gap and Number: .035" (0.9mm) Champion: BL9Y Resistor Type: RBL9Y So it looks like RV12YC is the modern equivalent to the BL-9Y. Check out Freeze 12. http://www.freeze12.com/ eyeteeth wrote: ![]() I'm curious to see pics of the inside, the window set up on yours looks almost identical to mine, I wonder if we have the same floor plan. Here are some pics of the interior from when we first got it. It's a mess, at this point all we had done is install new blinds. I'll post some more later, we've now installed new carpet. ![]() ![]() ![]() Yep... that is almost identical to my floor plan. I like your barrel chairs, the fridge/freezer combo, and the accordion divider for the bunk area. I've been keeping my eye out for a larger fridge for mine and trying to figure out the beat way to add a divider to mine. Nice rig... I obviously like the floor plan. ![]() Still remodeling mine. But I use it too much to make a lot of progress. I'm hoping to go with vinyl allure flooring and some little throw rugs instead of carpeting in mine. |

FrugalFreak, RE Spark plugs I have a 78 Dodge chassis (w/ a Fleetwood Jamboree). My 440 had Mighty R42 plugs in it when I got it. When I looked for the equivalents, they were Autolite resistor 85. I also just now looked up the plugs using Autolite's lookup by vehicle system and it also came up with 85s. I used these criteria: Copper resistor spark plugs Vehicle type: Passenger/Light Truck Year: 1978 Make: Dodge Truck Model: 400 Engine V8-440CID 4 bbl. (D) Both 1978 and 1979 show the same plugs. Perhaps I have not used the correct criteria? I have the 85s in mine now and they seem to be working fine. |

FrugalFreak wrote: ![]() 440 All years use Champion Copper / Spark Plug Part Number: #406 or RV12YC This is what I picked up and installed today. The parts store didn't have any RV9YCs, and the guy said he hadn't seen that cold of a plug in a while. He was familiar with the confusing situation, and found the RV12YC listed for use in all motorhome 440s. I figure the previous owner had changed to a colder heat range for some reason. I'll pull them and check them after some miles to see how they look. So our rig now has a new cap, rotor, and plugs and it runs great. Now just to see if it will pass smog. |

Pinging (pre-ignition/detonation) would be one reason for going to a colder plug. Basically, the sparkplug tip gets hot enough to ignite the fuel/air mixture before the distributor fires that plug ... make sure the timing is on the mark. (Yes, I've seen people install colder plugs to deal with timing that was off ... they should have fixed the problem, not the symptoms.) 1970 Explorer Class A on a 1969 Dodge M300 chassis with 318 cu. in. Hi everyone! I have been reading this thread for awhile and finally decided to write in. I have enjoyed looking at everyone's rigs and reading the wealth of information that is here! I have a 76 Tioga 23' Class C with the 360. It has about 88K miles, and still has all the original appliances in working order. I've had it about 3 years now, and aside from some minor maintenance it has been very reliable and I have enjoyed camping in it. Tioga76, nice looking MH. How does that thing do climing the grades out there in Colorado with the 360? I have a similiar size MH, and the wife wants to visit her friend in Idaho this summer. So it would be a long run from MI to Idaho Falls. We are trying to decide weather or not to tow the Jeep with us. I am not to sure of the power to climb the hills out there though.
