The brochure has a 78 and older chassis. Yours if for sure a 79 or newer.

Sweetnessmonster - I'm in the same boat you are for parts. '79 with a 440. Much like the lite ut suv I used to have. A '94 jimmy with a 4.3ltr Vortec. All computers and books said the Vortec wasn't available until '95 when they changed the body style. Anyway... if you find a source for the running boards, post it. ![]() I'm looking for a couple other things if anyone can help... 1) The plastic "basket" that goes on the very end of the speedometer cable and "snaps" onto the back of the speedometer. Mine's cracked and I need a replacement. 2) Someone here mentioned a source for R-12 for these older AC systems. I'm hoping to not be too lazy in just asking rather searching through 60 pages of this thread. ![]() |

^^On the R12. I just convertered mine to the R-134a and all is working well and blowing ice cold. The conversion consisted of 2 fittings for the high and low side connections at the compressor and some ester oil. Go ahead and switch. R-12 is very hard to come by and has gotten very expensive.

All computers and books said the Vortec wasn't available until '95 when they changed the body style. Apparently, they've fixed that. I have no problems getting parts for my '93 Bravada with 4.3L Vortec - you just tell them CPI, not TBI (the Vortec actually was used as a marketing tool...Vortec heads were on carbureted 4.3L). As for the R-12, you can still get bigger containers of it but you need a license to do so. It's a lot easier and cheaper to convert to R-134. We don't have dash air, but we wouldn't do the conversion b/c the bf is an HVAC master and always has R-12 on the truck (and he detests R-134). Systems converted to R-134 suck. I've had it done before, and it's never as efficient. I would much rather pump some R-12 with some Dye into the system, and go from there. I did (as you know) finally get a genset for the Rv, I'm just not sure how well the rooftop will keep the cab cool with that big ole 440 under there. (And I'm the only one that's a yooper and want's it cold) |

Check out Freeze 12. http://www.freeze12.com/ eyeteeth wrote: ![]() I'm curious to see pics of the inside, the window set up on yours looks almost identical to mine, I wonder if we have the same floor plan. Here are some pics of the interior from when we first got it. It's a mess, at this point all we had done is install new blinds. I'll post some more later, we've now installed new carpet. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Eye, I can't comment on how mine was with the R-12 as the system was empty when I bought it. I went to my dad's shop to charge the system and what was left of the R-12 was not enough to charge it. So I did the convert. When is was 80 degrees out, after getting the house part cooled down with the roof air, the cab air kept the front ice cold and the hottest it got in the back was 78 after a 2 hour drive. I would say it was working pretty good.

sweetnessmonster wrote: ![]() I figured that a build date of 12-78 would be a '79 model year (didn't the model years usually change around Sep?), especially since it has the 4 headlights. Maybe the chassis is a '79, and the engine is a '78. But according to the Champion apps list I've seen, the RJ12YCs are for a '78. But they are so different than what was in there. I'm inclined to just go get some new RV9YCs, but I'd like to get to the bottom of the application questions. When did the 440-3 cease production? Isn't '79 one of the last years? Where do I find identifying numbers on the engine and/or heads? doing research on web, these are the numbers I found, 440 All years use Champion Copper / Spark Plug Part Number: #406 or RV12YC Autolite-Platinum / Spark Plug Part Number: AP25 Motorcraft / Spark Plug Part Number: 450 Ac-Delco-Rapidfire / Spark Plug Part Number: 1 Autolite-Double-Plat / Spark Plug Part Number: APP25 Ac-Delco / Spark Plug Part Number: R42TS Bosch-Copper-Super+ / Spark Plug Part Number: 7969 Autolite-Resistor / Spark Plug Part Number: 25 Motorcraft / Spark Plug Part Number: SP-450 413/361 all years use Champion part # 405 Found recommendation for RV12YC here. the other numbers are other manufacturers equivalency to the #406. Oil Filter '60-'75 413 cart. type part # 1092 Oil filter '60-'75 spin on type part # 1515 Oil filter '74 only, 440 eng. part # 1515 Oil filter '75-79 440 eng. part # 1068 Air filter ''60-76 all engines part # 2244 Air filter '71-'76 all engines part # 2044 ______________________________________________________________ a Post from somewhere- While this information is located on the first page of the Dodge Parts Book, I suspect it gets missed. Because of the coding used in the Dodge MH Parts maual, it can be confusing at times to determine which part number you need. You not only need the year model, you need the chassis key code from the first page of the parts manual. Dodge did things like referring to the M375 chassis as M4 (If you look at the brake overhaul pictures they refer to a 72 M400; it's actually a M375). The following table is a condensed version of the key code information. ![]() _______________________________________________________________ new engine mounting brackets depending on the engine you choose. Both 318s and 360s use Dodge PN 3894712 for the right side (440s use PN 3823214), but the left side mount is different for all three engines: PN 4112853 for 3l8s, PN 3497409 for 360s, and PN 3823215 for 440s. The rubber insulators are the same for all '72-'92 trucks, (except those with 3.9L V-6) PN 4088033 for both sides. some parts numbers I've gathered from other forums people discussing 440's and Dodge RVs. Can anyone confirm that above info is correct? ________________________________________________________________________________ * This post was last edited 05/13/09 06:31pm by FrugalFreak * 15' ??Unknown??
