79powerwagon wrote: ![]() I have my new rims, but still haven't gotten tires. 235/85 16 actually fit in teh front fenders???? The wheels for my fronts had 245/75/16 Michelins on them, and there was NO WAY they'd fit in there. I need the smallest diameter, at least D rated tires for my front. Any recommendations? I'm not worried about the rears, plenty of space in there, and since I have to carry two different spares anyway... I went with the 215/85/16 after all and glad I did,, if I went with somthing wider my inside dual tire would have been rubbing on the leaf spring pack, it only cleared by 7/8 of a inch max, thats close, I don't know what back set your new rims are but my new one's are 5 inch back set, I would go with the thinner over fatter tire to be on the safe side. My rpm,s dropped 200-250, old 16.5 was 3000 rpm's at 60 mph and now is about 2750 rpm.s at 60 mph, my speedo is also off 55 = 60 mph now. The BF Goodrich Commercial T/A tires seem to be a good tire so far, I hope they last a good long time, I am so glad to be done with the 16.5 tires and rims.. ![]() |

Because the front rims and rear rims on his Dodge are different, so he has to have 2 spares.

Yup, early 1 ton B chassis' used a conventional wheel up front (like from a 3/4 ton) and full duallys in the rear. So, 215/85-16 is the magic ticket? COOL! I got my W2's today, time to get the taxes done and buy some tires! ![]() She ain't purdy, but at least she's slow! ![]() |

The 215/85/16 are about 29 inches tall do make sure it will work,, mines a 79 but I dont know what clearance you have with a 73.. I did'nt know Dodge put 2 different rims on in the ealier 70's B vans,, would'nt it be wiser to get two of those extender spindles for the front hubs and get 2 more dually rims and go with one spare, its one less tire to buy.. ![]() |

Have a 78 Tioga 440. What's up with the tranny not shifting into high gear (or OD) until about 60 mph? Other gears shift just fine.

You don't have OD, only 1-2-3. Shouldn't be a lockup tranny, either. Have you checked the fluid level, which is done with the vehicle and tranny warmed up and the tranny in neutral, not park? How's the color and smell? How about the filter? Have you done a fluid and filter change? |

Have you done a fluid and filter change? Kick down linkage (which is really a pressure control) might be out of adjustment too. But more than likely, you are just used to 4-5 speed automatics, which this isn't. |
