Leeann wrote: ![]() Griff - I still need to take some pics of them installed, but them plus the crossover pipe is a wonderful thing (oh, and a replaced flange gasket, too). What are your thoughts on going to an e-fan? E-fan?? As in electric radiator fan?? Your BF probably has a better opinion on that. I'm planning on using a stock clutched fan on MLP. |

As of right now, the stock clutched fan provides 80% of the noise in the driver's compartment. The other 20% is intake noise, which we're going to try to fix with the intake hose stuff, which also will give us cooler intake air (hopefully). It's just a thought and a question - has anyone on here done it, what is involved and is it worth it? '73 Concord 20' Class A w/Dodge 440 - see profile for photo |

It's just a thought and a question - has anyone on here done it, what is involved and is it worth it? It might be better to ask this question on "that other forum," where Charlie1935, bigdog440, Madlurch, PowerWagonPete, and the others can chime in. It seems to me that the stock clutch fan and any electric fan would generate roughly the same amount of noise. In both cases, the fan blades need to 'beat the air' to the same degree to draw air through the radiator. Consider the noise produced by helicopters and propeller driven fixed wing aircraft ... the military has a vested interest in making those as quiet as possible. There may be other advantages, besides potential noise reduction. Flex fans, clutched fans, and electric fans all seek to achieve the same goal ... which is to shut the fan off when not needed. I'd be willing to say noise reduction is a secondary consideration in any of the alternatives. I know, in my case, noise reduction is a distant second in terms of the reasons for the cold air intake I'm planning for MLP. (I'm banking more on insulation for noise reduction than any other engine compartment mods.) |

For those who might want to know what's planned for MLP -- Thorley Tri-Y headers, dual exhaust with X- or H- crossover, and Flowmaster mufflers. Small tubes to the crossover or mufflers and big tubes after that.
