Topic: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Posted By: Old & Slow on 09/10/08 05:59am

Edit to be~ '1979 Dodge Mb400 440'

The trouble I run into is this model is not listed with most parts houses. I needed a front brake job recently and the brake lines were located at Advance Auto after much dismay. Same problem to locate the wiper bushings. At Advance Auto, for the bushings, no deal. Found them only at O'Reilly Auto. Makes me crazy.

If it's a Dodge, it isn't a 460. A 460 is a Ford...Chevy's got the 454 and Dodge has the 440.

If it's an '89, it isn't an MB400 (Dodge stopped making the motorhome chassis in either '79 or '80).

So it must be a '79 MB400 with 440?

I was able to get the radio in last night... not really happy with it... but it's working. I'll go back and rewire and add a toggle later. I like that idea. Newer technology type of CD/MP3/satiliite radio... 30 year old speakers. Guess what else I want to add/replace now.

The cool thing, is being newer, it came with a remote control. THAT will be handy in the MH.

Thanks Leeann,

At 74 I'm old and finding the right parts for my prize 24' 1978 Tioga (the plate shows the mfg of the Van cut away shows 1979) has made me 'crazy' Sorry. I'll try to do better.

I run into that all the time too. they have no record of another over 300, and they say they stopped putting the 440 in stuff in 78.

Just makes it more challenging.

Hey... anyone have a source for "fender flares"

Hey, relax - it isn't a problem, we just need to know the details to help [emoticon]

Is it the Dodge VIN plate that says '79 or the Tioga ID plate? Split year manufacture is a normal thing in motorhomes - the manufacturers buy a chunk of chassis, then build on them as they need to. On occasion, you'll even get a 2-year difference in build date.

'78 was the last year that Dodge put the 440 in cars (I think), but they continued to put them in the bigger trucks and motorhome chassis until '80 (had a surplus, maybe?).

I have a parts manual, so I just bring my guys the Chrysler part # for whatever I need and they cross it. However, my guys have all the paper books and no problem looking things up when I forget. That's why I go there. Don't go to Advance/AutoZone/O'Reilly's/whatever - they simply don't know that there are paper books (if they even have them). If you go to NAPA, tell them to look in the books, not in the computer - they have all the info, but not in the computer.

Fender Flare material

You know where everything is. lol. I'm really hoping to someday put the air deflector on the front, fender flares, and little running boards. All plainted to match the cab. (Whatever color it's faded too. [emoticon] )

LeeAnn is amazing.... I agree eyeteeth,,,
Eyeteeth: Just a followup to a former discussion. The vinyl stuff I used on my shower surround that reacted to the liquid nails bath & shower formula.(As it has set the reaction has tempered some and it doesn't look as bad) Well, I used the silicone calk bath & shower type and it worked great. I stapled the vinyl on the top and bottom as both of those are covered with the shower pan or moulding so I just need something to help it stick to the wall and the silicone seems to have worked great. I don;t know if this helps you or not... I will get some photos of all this one of these days and show you how it came out.

I don't think anyones dying statement ever contained the words "I wish I had spent more time in the office", so lets go somewhere!
