Well I check my vin and now I am piss off, cause they told me when I got my American Clipper that is was a 440, but as I did some checking and found that it is a 360, I have gotten part for 440, like the fuel pump had to go back and get the right one and the spark plus I might have to change to, cause now it's a 360, I feel like******now, all the stuff I did was for a 440. so I guess there was never a 440 in American Clipper in 1975, unless it's a small black 440, does anyone know how to check if it is a small black 440 jc from ceres, ca |

There is no small block 440 - it's the big block. Big blocks were 440, 413 and 400. Small blocks were 360 and 318. The PO might have assumed that since most of the Dodge-based American Clippers were 440s that he had one; however, it seems that many Clippers came with the 360. The article was in August's Hot Rod, iirc. And the paint job actually looked respectable... Griff - I've got the Bendix Hydraulic Brake Parts for Medium Duty Trucks Thru 1976 catalog, but my chassis isn't covered (sniff). It starts at the M400/R400 chassis and mine's an RM300. * This post was edited 09/19/07 03:50pm by Leeann * '73 Concord 20' Class A w/Dodge 440 - see profile for photo |

I don't think anyones dying statement ever contained the words "I wish I had spent more time in the office", so lets go somewhere! |

The 440 is a Mopar RB big block ... distributor in in the front of the engine, immediately behind the water pump. (The B blocks, RB blocks, and hemis all had distributors in front.) IMHO - the 360 is a good engine ... consider that the 318 in MLP pulled it all over this state at a very healthy clip ... I passed new cars all the way up Turnagain Pass and didn't have to downshift until the last 1/4 - 1/2 mile. With no offense to Leeann, I think the 440 is excessive unless you have a really big (27+ foot) motorhome or are pulling a toad or big boat. 1970 Explorer Class A on a 1969 Dodge M300 chassis with 318 cu. in. (split year) 1972 Executive Class A on a Dodge M375 chassis with 413 cu. in. 1973 Explorer Class A on a Dodge RM350 (R4) chassis with 318 engine & tranny from 1970 Explorer Class A ![]() |

I have seen a 440 small black in a hot rod mag years ago, and yes they have 440 from 1976 up, and I think she is still trying to tell me that it's a 440, I bug her again tonight, maybe ok not I just leave as it is. Leeann wrote:

I might not take offense to that ![]() ![]() We pull a trailer with 2 raceboats, motors and tools every time we take her out and often have to go through mountains. While the 360 in Big Ugly (1990 B250) pulled the trailer fine most of the time, it did have some trouble in the mountains. We like the 440 ![]() |

Al The $98 Paint Job, Christopher Campbell, p. 94, Hot Rod, July 2007 You're thinking of the thick-nap latex rollers ... this uses the thin foam rollers. Thinning the Rustoleum improves it's self-leveling properties. (I've used foam rollers for marine epoxy, spar varnish, and polyurethane, to name a few.) |
