Topic: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Posted By: 79powerwagon on 08/31/07 06:43am

Trish, solid or hydraulic lifters don't have anything to do with leaded or unleaded fuels. It's the exhaust valve seats that get affected. I killed a fresh set of J915 heads on my 360 in about one year running the miserable reformulated swill they force us to run. Had hardened seats installed, never a problem again. Pretty inexpensive to do as well (I think it was like $5-8.00 each).

My Tioga is designed for leaded fuel. Once i have it tuned up and running properly, I'll see if my seats have sunk or not (using a vacuum gauge), but the PO does have a few bottles of lead substitute in the rig...

She ain't purdy, but at least she's slow!

Sorry... Correction... the web site lists Aqua Magic V as 12 1/2 inches high... not 14... salesperson didn't measure well at the store I guess. Anyway... they make a 2 1/2 inch riser for the toilet that's another $40. That brings it to the height of the Aqua Magic III.

Also, while I am typing... I may have a freak of a toilet. Every store I've talked too is pretty sure they ALL use the same water fitting, even across brands. So, we're going to take a look this afternoon.

Jeez, eyeteeth - that stinks [emoticon]

Hope you find a replacement porch light quickly and easily. We apparently had one at one time, because the refer-like switch is still installed in the door frame, but no light.

The toilet sounds like a total PITA. I'm positive I don't want anything lower than my Aqua-Magic III - it's already a bit low. Fortunately, ours works perfectly with no leaks (knocks on wood).

I am a little confused by the different water fitting, as I thought they were universal, too...I hope you get that straightened out in a bigger hurry than the light so you can get on the road! And then at your leisure, of course, install the riser to make it back taller for normal humans [emoticon]

We were supposed to go to a race this weekend, as we always do, but decided to stay home and get some more done on the RV instead. Traveling this weekend is no fun, anyway [emoticon]

Leeann, just because you're staying home doesn't mean you can't camp... [emoticon] (yeah, I know, mind my own business! [emoticon] )

Eye, perhaps the fitting on the john has been changed in the past. I've seen stranger things...

Hehehehehehe....

Actually, the back spasms I'm still recovering from say I can't camp (muscle relaxers are gooooood). I would've toughed it out had we gone to the boat race, though [emoticon]

Supposed to be gorgeous this weekend, so we're planning on fixing the newly-found leaks in the roof, finally putting the last fuel tank in place so we can attach the pumps, wires and fuel lines to all (already in place) and remove the mechanical pump. Oh, and putting up our shed. [emoticon]

The last person I spoke with on the toilet said that was definitely not standard... somewhere along the line... possibly even the factory... switched it to a compression fitting. We rigged up an adapter, and I'll be good to go after 10 minutes of cussing at my tools and their uselessness in confined spaces.

I couldn't imagine someone tall trying to use this thing... I mean... its just over a foot high!?! Who really designed that, and how many times DID they follow the yellow brick road?

The light shouldn't be more than a couple minutes either. I have a different fixture now. Took a long lunch today.

Leanne... what type of boat racing? We're once again heading to the track tonight, then we're heading north to the Bridge for what we're considering our first real camping trip. (Never mind the two day trip back from picking the unit up... or the weekend we spent driveway camping... or the previous two weekends we've spent at the track.)

Heh - small, outboard hydroplanes. Kneeldown boats...the bf's is about 13' and goes about 90 mph. Too stinkin' fast for my taste [emoticon]

This is the bf in his boat - at the race we're missing 2 yrs ago:

My dad use to run D Alky runabout and hydro waaay back when. Part of waht got me interested in racing. I'll have to track down an old pic. What class does he run? Wondering if you've ever been in my neck of the woods. I guess the "old timers" were trying to get my dad to some race this fall in either Indiana or Illinois because they wanted him to bring al his old snapshots and home movies.

There was a picture of him that was used in many publications, and made many covers that might still be recognized. He stopped before I was born (I'm 37) but I can still remember seeing it in current publications when I was growing up.

He runs Formula E Hydro and Runabout - the largest/fastest gasoline class. The motor in the pic above is a former alky, converted back to gas (one of Charlie Wix' old motors). It's a '57 Mercury Mark75H - inline 6.

The race they wanted him to come to was DePue - they had a big reunion. Check out www.boatracingfacts.com - owned by Ron Hill and Ted March, who probably remember your dad. Ron Hill was one of the bigger forces in setting up the reunion. The bf is one of the admins on the site.

We have an absolute TON of old boat magazines in this house. I'm sure we have that pic of your dad here, so I'd be interested in seeing it.

79powerwagon,

About these lifters. My 1977 Chinook is on a 360 chassis. The previous owner said he had these valves replaced. I wonder, is there a way to tell, without having to pull the Heads/Valve covers, or running it till they go.....[emoticon]

I have only driven this about 150 miles since I bought it, running great, but hate to think this wasn't done and find out the hard way? He specifically said I do not have to use the additive. This was after I said I would buy it, so would think he was truthful.
