Agree, but I still want the gassers to keep to the right on the hills so I don't have to slow down for them.

I imagine you'll still be passing me after I get the diesel. I'm not in your race.

I usually run 50 or so On 11 miles of constant 7% 2 lane rd. And always get stuck behind someone with a half ton with a 26' or so tongue pull doing 30. Passing lanes are few & far between. On the return trip there's one that's 5/6 miles of 6% on I-17 with a speed limit of 75. I can top out @ 65 mph.

With a 12K+ lb toyhayler. You think I'm being unreasonable?

Sounds reasonable to me.

But I do wonder what you think the problem is when it's a diesel holding you up, or when a gasoline rig passes you.

I don't think those speeds are unreasonable. I can also better those speeds with my gas truck and my trailer.

I can't recall a time that my speed was limited by the power of the truck. Mostly it is how much of a hurry I am to get where I am going vs how much I want to spend on fuel. That generally works out to climbing most 5-6% interstate grades at about 60 but it will do over 70. unless there is a climbing lane you usually have a choice of trying to do 75-80 with the cars or 35-40 with the big trucks. So most folks towing an rv have to decide if they want to get slowed down by a truck or be the slow down for the cars.

The only gassers that have ever passed me weren't towing anything. And the few diesels that have were towing something much heavier than I but were still making better time than a gasser with a trailer in tow.

I sure would like to see a gasser hold 60/70 on 11 miles of 6/7% with no let up. Towing 12K+ 5er. haven't in the past 13 yrs. Would def be a sight to behold. I guess everyone has a fantacy.

Should we start a petition to ask Obama to make gasoline illegal by executive order?

If you own a gasser you are destined to a life of driving in the slow lane, the solvent properies of the fuel make the oil useless, your vehicle will burst into flames in an accident, and your babies will be born nekkid. [emoticon]

It's not a diesel vs gas issue, but there's probably enough diesel vehicle experience watching this thread to get a valid opinion.

I'll probably be buying a F-350 or GM 3500 SRW diesel 4x4 in the Fall next year. Reading up on them it seems GM has issues with DEF and Ford with water in the fuel. In the collective opinion here, which is thought to be the issue of most concern? Either truck looks like it will do all I need it to.

Mods,

Feel free to delete this if you think it should be a new thread or has already been discussed to death. Maybe we need a Dodge vs Ford vs GM sticky.

No but he could get the price down a little. LOL. I'm not bashin gassers just makin a point. Like I said in a previous post everyone has different wants & needs. If a gasser meets your needs and that's what you want by all means buy one. We have a guy that camps with us drivin a 3/4 T Chev with a 454 towing a 5er. WOW is he late getting to camp. But it's what he has and obviously it works for him. Some buy new every few years I choose to keep it forever. This thread has brought out lots of info, heat, and a little humor along the way. I enjoying the sparring. At the end of the day I just hope everyone tows safely and has a good time doing it in whatever vehicle you choose. Y'all have a good night. I'll be back tomorrow for another round.

You know this is why I'll keep my old one. They are all having issues thanks to to the DEQ and their Emmisions crap. Plus I'm not paying more for a truck than my house. I think towing ability they are all 3 very close. It comes down to is the new car smell worth the $$$$ & agravation that comes with the new trucks. I say No.
