18%. That's ridiculous. The steepest highway in America is 10% and I believe it is in Wyoming. An 18% driveway doesn't count.

Interstates are mostly 6 or 7% slope but... News Flash! Not all highways are interstate! There are some roads in Pa mountains that are well over 20% slope. I've driven some of them with the truck but haven't tried pulling the camper up them. Some day I may just for bragging rights![emoticon]

I bought my diesel just because of the poor gas mileage on my gasser.
Same RV went up more than 5 mpg towing than the gasser.Even with my lift and bigger tires.
I do have EFI LIVE now and it is even better than any can tuner or chip.
The power the torque is unbelievable.
Diesel do cost a lot more to repair.and a lot more maintience.
Love to have a gasser around town but the diesel to do all my towing.

towing/ cargo CAPACITY Gas vs. Diesel, almost no comparison. Diesel wins. Torque. Diesel, Fuel mileage towing- Diesel. power upgrades (within reason of course) probly equal. A previous poster asked why someone with a diesel will add a chip, or programmer? A: same reason as a gas truck, more power, and torque, or mileage. I know that my 07 cummins 350Hp/ 600 tq stock is enough. however, adding additional 275Hp, 300 lbs tq, makes towing a lot easier, probly less wear and tear on the drivetrain, less shifting, and I dont worry about big grades, or not being able to pass someone if I need to. I had a gas truck to tow with, it just is not the same as my diesel. Just my .02
I currently also tow a 51' triple axle gooseneck, good for 24K, again, no problems. I dont recomend doing this with a gas truck.

900ft/lb torque. Nice!!! Seriously.

Curious, did you upgrade your transmission or are you waiting for it to blow up from that much torque.[emoticon]

I have had both (pulled a 9,000 lb travel trailer) and the diesel pulls much better. I currently have a 2008 Dodge with the 6.7 Cummins that I bought new, given the emission system issues these trucks have I am seriously considering a gas truck. I only pull my trailer 15 - 20 times a year and am beginning to feel like the reliability and maint. cost are not worth it. But it pulls like a beast and gas can not even come close.

We currently have a MH which works well for as we move around alot. We still work fulltime but are thinking when we retire we may want to change to a 5th wheel as we will probably stay in one place for up to three months at a time. I am thinking if we go with a trailer of 10,000# or more it will have to be a diesel no matter what the cost. I worked up the chart below to show what the fuel savings would be in 50,000 miles and 75,000 miles based on 33% better fuel economy. Also used $0.50 and $0.75 difference in price. It would take a long time to make up the difference in the upfront cost and upkeep of a diesel. But, as I said, it makes no difference if you are pulling a 15,000# trailer. You have to have a diesel.

(Can't get the chart to post without being fuzzy)Anyway, if I lived longed enough to put 100,000 miles on and all I had to do was regular oil changes and tires I would make up the $10,000 in added up front cost.
