Well have a 32' 1993 Pursuit and got the p30 GM manual off of eBay. Do you have a Ford or Chevy? They are awesome quality even though they were entry level MH's of the era. We had to put a Amish cooling unit in the frig and a faucet set in the bath tub/shower. We have put 20K on ours since we got it in 2007 and are at about 110K now. In 2011 we did an 8K mile north to south USA loop that included the Pacific Ocean. We have the 454 TBI (1992 chassis) and it ran the Rockies like it was flat but did keep RPM's 3500 to 4000 when climbing. Even with a totally new cooling system you need to keep up the RPM's for best cooling.

Welcome .

Its a Chevy. My first Chevy too! What's yours? Will look on Ebay and let u know. Will pay for a copy if necessary. Costs are such that I want to do as much of the maintenance as possible myself.

Once again, be it car, boat, RV, riding mower, etc, ALWAYS ask/DEMAND from seller, ALL the required manuals, if they do not have then, require serial nr, model mfg of all repairable items for review prior to sale. If new from dealer or used at dealer, REQUIRE ALL manuals be placed on the item they cover, be it engine, generator, stove, refer, AC etc.Not good enough to just "here are the manuals etc", have them placed ON/AT the item they refer to, then assure what they are, match the unit. Can save you lot of money and issues if anything goes wrong as first thing parts of repair must know is "Model, year, Serial Nr, and MFG. Nothing worse then breakdown and not know what it was that broke. Dealers can supply all manuals with what they sell as easy for them to source, make it part of deal and as said, require manual be on item, not in big pile somewhere. Noe this will often draw attention to what seems "great deal" to look closer if nothing available. Seller should at least, supply model nr, serial nr, year/mfg if nothing else.

Last week we went out to look at class a rv's in the dh's price range. He was less then impressed. We ended up stopping by McGeorge's in Ashland, VA. There I gave my price point (still low for a class a, under 20). I didn't want to break the bank on a starter unit and am not certain the DH will like the rv. We had a pop-up for a lot of years. Most times it was just the girls and I that took it out.

We ended up buying a 1998 Damon Intruder M849 that has had the banks system installed. It has dual slideouts. It also has less the 21k on the odometer. They had all the manuals and service records from the prior owner. We pick it up on Monday. [emoticon]

I am BLOWN away by the amount of information in this one thread. Before I plow through 61 (61!) pages of posts, I just want to ask…

I read the first post and thought "what? I have to go to the factory and watch my RV being made?"

We are first time RV buyers, and I thought we had narrowed things down to a Winnebago or an Itasca - specific models in each and on sale now since they are 2014's and the 2015's are out. I thought things like wiring and soundproofing were standard.

Seriously, do I have to stop now and special order something?

Thank you SOOO much for your input!

Old rule when I was a Hi Tech Program Manager applies: Regardless of paperwork, meetings, promises, ads, schedules, if you cannot lay hands on supposed HW, more then "Seeing drawings/part on way", you probable are the victim of rumors and it will cost you your budget plus 20-60% and get delivered late, not to specs. OK?

I appreciate the info [emoticon] But I think what I'm asking is… Can I buy my RV off the lot at the dealership, or do I have to special order it so that I can inspect it at the manufacturer? Surely there must be SOME people who buy the ones on the lots?

Or is that EXACTLY what you're saying? Sometimes you have to break it down for us "non-high-tech PM's" [emoticon]

I bought mine off the lot where they had several models of the MH that I wanted, if you already know what you want then check dealers listings online and when you find the one you want then have dealers give you a price for the one you want. Let them compete for your business, most will. You should be able to then inspect in great detail the one you want, identify anything that needs fixing and put that in the contract and don't take delivery until your "punch" list items are all to your satisfaction. It is much easier to get things done before delivery than after delivery, in my experience.

Mel what we are saying is when you go to buy, if it (whatever "it" is, is not there, not working, and you are told, "will fix, get manuals, repair-replace, "not an issue", etc, you have two options
A. RUN
B. Advise in writing what your issues are, and do not purchase, get much down (note on Down, "subject to repairs-etc, to set reasonable period of time to repair-etc, or 100% refund after set period of time". Purchase subject to timely repairs etc". Be careful with down, holding unit etc, as some folks might just take down and forget rest if big enough and not do what is wanted.

AKA if you cannot lay hands on it, forget promises, paper, repair orders, etc. Apply option 1. You can be assured the "Just love that unit" etc, there will another one as good or better out there.
