Leveling Jacks or leveling on air bags is essential in many RV parks due to sites being not level. You need to be able to level to be comfortable in your rig, even if you have leveling jacks you may still need to have other leveling aids, some folks use the portable blocks which you can buy for that purpose.
In Florida, you might find that you will need two AC units running at the same time to keep your RV cool, depends on size RV you are cooling. Most rigs 34 feet or longer appear to have 2 AC units as standard install. You will need 50 amp hookups to use both AC units at the same time, your generator will have provide ample current to run both ACs at the same time.
Not sure what rig you are considering but I'd be looking for an older high end rig rather than a newer low end rig. Lots of good deals on those units now and they do make traveling more comfortable, better handling, better ride. Something in an older Foretravel, Country Coach, Blue Bird, etc.,
Enjoy the search.

Hi Johnny T: I realize your post was from 2006 but we are newbies and just read your wonderful article on First Time Buyers.
Would you mind telling us what make you eventually bought. We are like you and plan to move around quite a bit. I felt while reading your article it was our exact thoughts also.
Thanks, Rick and Vikki

The only thing I don't like about this process is the lying the salesman do. Anything to sell the vehicle, trying to get around it to the facts is darn near impossible.
They start the RV before you get there even though you want to see it start up cold, their response, of course it doesn't blow blue smoke, well, I'd like to see that for myself! So I'm going to insist it be cold start when I go to pick it up, if it's not I won't be taking it home that day.
Getting around the bull is such a pain.

Have you considered having it checked out by a third party mechanic? Shouldn't cost more than a couple hundred dollars to have it checked out, if you know of a reputable mechanic that would give you a lot more confidence that you are getting what you are paying for.

Hi I am not only a newbie looking for advice I am new at this. Thought I posted it once but not sure it worked. I should probably stick to driving my little car.... Anyway, my question is....when buying a used GAS RV, what kind of mileage should we be looking at. We know diesels are built for longevity but what about gas motors????
Thanks
