Hey JohnnyT,
How about starting a business as a buyer's consultant? We would all benefit from it-- you and the buyer. Sure, it would cost the buyer a few bucks, but the buyer may save big bucks over the long haul.
Just a thought...............

JonnyT,
Excellent job on your post. You are dead-on with you comments.
I spent nearly three years preparing to buy a coach. My thinking changed frequently during that time as I learned more. In the end, I learned that there is a lot of junk out there and there is also a big difference in years that the same coach was built. Serious research will produce serious results, but it takes time. For me this was a large investment and I am very satisfyed with my purchase. Since an RV is not an investment and the depreciation is high, I opted to go used. I ended up with a highline coach at a very reasonable price.
Do your homework.

I am a first time RVer. I have a couple of suggestions. The research that you want to look for and go through from floor plans and manufacturers are easily assesible through your computer. My wife and I have several RV dealerships here in town. I looked them up to see what manufacturers they carry and I check each of them through their websites. Then you can go and check them out in person. Look them over inside and out then test drive. My wife and I compledted our research to narrow down to 2 manufacturers. Bounder and Turbo Bounder 37U, which is Fleetwood. The other is the Journey manufactured by Winnebago. I did some research and sent email to every dealer accross the US to get the best quote. A dealer in Montana had the best qoute and they don't charge sales taxes. That's a sevings of over $10,000 just in taxes yet alone in the price of the RV. I have found out that some have option which increase the price and others have them standard. Instead of driving everywhere do your reseach through the internet.
Jt, you did a good job, sorry, I was already ahead of you before I read it.

Johnny T, a lot of good information, thank you.
My question: when negotiating price for a new MotorHome is the offer of 25% off MRSP a realistic target one should shoot for? And how do you know what the real MRSP ? Also, is there a way to get a look at the dealers Invoice (dealers cost)?

This is my first visit to the forum and I am a first time shopper of a much desired first travel trailer. Some have posted his piece verbose, but I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of it!
I am a single Mom with a 10 year old son and we both love the outdoors and adventure. There where SO many things the piece brought to my attention and I am grateful to the author for the time, effort and thought put into it.
I can say that I will be a much more knowledgable buyer when we take the plunge and join the rest of you on the road.
If anyone has any advise on a trailer brand suited for tall folk (I'm 6' 1") and can be towed by my 1997 Ford Explorer...Id appreciate it.
Thanks all!
Kristen

I have been reading this issue for months and find it all very interesting. I wanted to pass along an event I experienced to see if others have similar experiences. It is about the price and discounts. I was admiring a new DP at a local dealer and he told me the price was $208,000. That is more than I want to pay. When I returned home, I looked up the same Coach and found a dealer who had the same coach exactly advertised for $148000. So, I called the local dealer back and he said, "Well, I can sell it to you for $148000". So, there is a 25% discount without negotiation BUT after I mentioned the other dealer's price. What if I hadn't asked?

Very good listing.
Here are some personal items which we would change:
Do not want the washer/dryer, but would rather have more storage. Most campgrounds have very good washer/dryer facilities.
Do like the dinette vs. table and chairs.
Want a shower which has a vent and can be used without blocking access to the rear bedroom.
Do not mind slide outs blocking access while on the road.
Would never give up a pantry for a four door refrigerator.
Need a gas oven for dry camping.
We are very happy with the workhorse chassis. (Do not mind the few times we had to reduce speed while going up steep grades.) We had a great trip to Alaska from New York and did not wish for a diesel.
Would not accept a unit unless we spent the night in it first. Many dealers have local campgrounds to make this possible.
Went to Georgia to get the best deal. But we are getting the best service from our local dealer here in Syracuse. Next time we will pay the extra $1,500 and get the MH locally.

Hello,
How do you like your Sportcoach? I own a Mirada and have been considering a Diesel.
Thanks
