Thanks Tom. Your info was very helpful (again) and I also did a search as suggested. Between what you said in the above post and what I read from other users we have decided to go with one of the SMI systems.
Thanks again for an excellent thread that has helped a lot of brake system buyers- myself included.
Happy trails!

Has anybody used the M&G air brake system? If so how do they like it.

hoosier,
If you haven't done so, try a search on M&G for both the last 12 months and for over 1 year. Lots of posts on their air brake.

Such questions as yours would do better as new threads instead of being attached to the bottom of this thread. I would imagine that most who read this thread are new to the search for supplementary brakes.

I, like you wanted a reliable system without the bells & whistles and without needing a second mortgage. I changed to a different toad last summer and wanted a new hitch and a brake system. After checking some information I went with the Blue Ox that attaches into the receiver of the motorhome and the Autostop braking system. I notice that rcpotter had a very negative post about the Autostop. I have not had any of the problems he encountered and believe it may have been related to adjustment. I have been happy with the Autostop. It is very simple to hook up when towing. I don't have to store anything when it is disconnected. The cost was reasonable. I have it adjusted, so that during slow normal stops it does not engage. It does engage on harder stops and on one occasion when someone stopped in front of me I could feel it helping to prevent a collision. We have gone down the Blueridge parkway with it and was happy with the way it worked.

I didn't see this mentioned in your list, but maybe you know. I am interested in a permanently installed breakaway system. I tow a Miata with a 38" diesel pusher, I don't need the 2200# Miata wearing it's brakes out helping the 28,000# RV stop. Is there such a thing or do you just need to set the sensitivity way down so the other systems don't apply the toad brakes?
Also would welcome info from anyone with a Miata with a permanent brake system installed.
Thanks in advance for your help and comments.

You stand a better chance of getting a discussion if you will start a new thread for your question. This thread is not looked at by the regulars on the forum, but rather by people trying to decide on a braking system.
As far as your question,
as of this date, all of the non-proportional sytems in the write-up can be set so as not to activate until a predetermined rate of deceleration has been reached; ie, you can have them activate only on 'hard' stops.

Why not also add the hazards of using an aux brake system? Point out how they frequently damage the toad brakes or are so slow reacting as to be totally ineffective in a panic stop. Also point out how those breakaway systems can cause multiple car collisions if activated in the middle of freeway rush hour traffic.
Also point out the fact that if your MOHO weight is more than about three times your toad weight you don't really need one.

The issues you wish to raise don’t fit the intention of the thread. Since many of the members of the forum who have already decided which systems, if any, meets their needs, the members with the most experience don’t tend to read this thread. Why don’t you start a thread to discuss your points. You will find lots of members who will join in your discussion. I imagine some will agree with at least some of your points and some will disagree. You will do the forum a service if you can provide evidence to support your contentions. The forum already has many discussions that provide evidence against some of them.
