I've seen a lot of interest in the forum regarding starting, maintaining or folks looking for a camping group. We're going to experiment with a "sticky" at the top of the forum so that people are more able to communicate about this.

This is a great idea.I am the president of a camping group in Maryland. We cover a wide geography from the west to central MD to Southern MD. We are always looking for fun people to come and join the group. We are the MD Road Runners, a Good Sam Chapter.

We have families with small children, grown children and no children. Working stiffs and retirees. It's wonderful to have a mixture of people to camp with and camping in a group is always more fun.

Before we formed this group we always watched the groups of campers with envy. The pot luck meals, the nights by the fire telling stories. We have always enjoyed camping as a family but now we have other families with similar interests to share this with and we've become very close.

Once a month we camp together based on a schedule that is set early in the camping season. This allows us plenty of alone family time and lots of group camping time when we're able to join.

Feel free to e mail me directly if you are in the MD area and would like to learn more about the MD Road Runners.

would love to find some others in Chattanooga/ Hixson Tennessee area that would like to form a group. We love to camp at Chester Frost campground but are willing to consider others that you recommend also. We camp with 2 boston terriors, no 2 legged children . but love others 2 legged ones. I enjoy camping of course, scrapbooking and other crafts (always willing to learn new ones too) , reading, and movies. My DH loves camping , fishing, movies, grilling, and just sitting around the campfire with a cold one....if interested ina group reply on forum.

Have I been looking in the wrong places??[emoticon] Are the groups "clicky?" (is that a word??) I mean do new members feel welcomed or out of "the loop?"

Our camping group got started much like Mike's North Texas group. A couple families got together and went camping. They invited a couple more. And soon we were up to about a dozen or more. I think the most we've ever had on a trip was about 10 campers. So if you're in the mid-thumb region of Michigan, consider giving us a holler.

PS: Mike, wish we could have hooked up together when I lived down just south the Denton area. Did some group camping back then but it was a bunch of young engineers in tents, no families yet. Our best trip was out to Big Bend.
